Postby Footy Smart » Wed Dec 15, 2010 8:36 am

would say play also, but there is no way cricket sa will allow all cricket to be played due to no bums on seats to watch the test.

Weather cannot be planned for. I myself and many other players i know, would rather watch the Test than play Grade Cricket for that weekend (after all it is only 1 weekend).

Personally, i pay for my members ticket each year and want to get my $$$ worth.

Having been in the position of both playing and not playing on Test match weekend over the years, I am all for having that weekend off. The Test Match is the pinnacle of our cricket calendar in Adelaide and it should be promoted as such. Would the amateur footballers be happy playing footy on AFL Grand Final day??

The fact that we have lost so many days to rain this year shouldn't be used as an excuse/reason to justify playing during the Test again. This year has been the worst in memory, and in my 22 years of club cricket only 1992/93 has come close in terms of lost days. So it's not like it happens every year...

The one way we can prevent losing days is to get the ridiculous heat rule scrapped. It's a summer sport & the heat comes with it.

I can't speak for FS but I too am in a similar position. Test Match Cricket is the highlight of the cricketing year and is what most members pay their dosh for. If I was forced to play cricket on that weekend then I would have to seriously consider my membership.

This year I attended 3 days, last year zero, I played an internal trial match as last years contest did not interest me plus we had washouts previously. For me it depends on the opposition. If England, South Africa or India were touring then yes I would go without question the rest I could miss out on if need be.

PLAY - As previously mentioned there are 4 other days in which you can attend.

If the individual would prefer to watch cricket then they make themselves unavailable for that game.
