What's A Stat?

Postby the big bang » Sun Apr 15, 2007 9:09 pm

just wondering a few things about what's clasased as a stat and whats not?

1. does a smothered kick go down as a kick?

2. i know it's very unlikely (and by that i mean impossible!) to happen in a league thats good enough to keep stats, but what if the full back kicks a goal from a kick out? the stat sheet could read that he didnt get a kick, and have a goal beside his name?

3.same situation, when a FB kicks it out on the full or rolls over the line with no-one touching it, that would be classed as a clanger but not a disposal? so it would be possible for someone to have more clangers than disposals?

4. same principle, a player could have 13 free kicks for, but if a teamate played on being payed advantage,he could have 0 disposals?

5. if a ruckman takes the ball from a bounce/throw in, does that count as a hit-out?

as i said, i know some of them are unlikely, but what would happen?

I dunno the answers to those curly questions, but I do know stats people have a very tough and probably boring job.

I witnessed the AFL stats people working at the Showdown yesterday, and no footy banter for them.

Average conversation:

Surjan - short kick
Burgoyne - mark, long kick
Tredrea - mark. long kick. goal

Brogan - tap.
mcLeod - long kick, clearance
Burton - mark, short kick
Welsh - mark, goal

and on and on and on.

Imagine doing that throughout a game???

1. does a smothered kick go down as a kick? - Its a clanger = so not a stat
3.same situation, when a FB kicks it out on the full or rolls over the line with no-one touching it, that would be classed as a clanger but not a disposal? so it would be possible for someone to have more clangers than disposals? - Its a clanger again, kick in is not clasified as a stat.

4. same principle, a player could have 13 free kicks for, but if a teamate played on being payed advantage,he could have 0 disposals? correct, but he would have got Frees For!

5. if a ruckman takes the ball from a bounce/throw in, does that count as a hit-out? NO, but he if he kicks or handball that would count has a stat.
