IMHO, I can't say that I agree that SANFL reserves would beat A1 amatuer sides as most, if not all, SANFL clubs use their reserves to develop talent and it's a common occurence that a lot of these guys who have been reserves "lifers" drop back to levels far lower than A1.

Most SANFL reserves would beat the top A1 sides by 10 goals, its a widely held opinion of those who have had recent involvement in both.

The teams in Mt Gambier would challenge the top amatuer sides. I played down there in the mid nineties and it was strong. Not sure if its dropped away like some leagues such as the spencer gulf were I also played in the early nineties and that was a great league.

western border has dropped off the pace alittle bit, top sides would be bout the same but last 6 or 7 yrs the bottom placed sides are pretty well all the same teams, millicent, west gambier, heywood

I think the top sanfl reserves sides will beat the div 1 amaters, but the lower reserves would sruggle.
Reserves are for up and coming young kids that are trying to break into league footy. I think the talent and more so the strength and experience of say Goodwood saints would beat a lot of reserves teams.

Having said that a lot of players who cant get a game with reserves teams end up back with their div 1 clubs
