Well turns out I was completely wrong, not for the first time either.

The senior Comp has 1 more week before finals, got appointed to a 19’s game Sat am. Then I believe I have a junior GF Sunday am, these are announced at training Thursday night, followed by the women’s Div 1 Prelim. This game to be played on Preston Oval a VFL ground.

Sat U /19's uneventful game other than one incident late in the game. I didn't get a clear view but a lad threw a punch copped his opponent in the neck by what I was told. I only saw the reaction. If I had a better view and it was as described I would have reported him. Useless player anyway, never got a kick.

Kids GF Sunday am in about 5 degrees & hail. Brilliant.

Womens Div 1 Prelim in the arvo. Preston Oval in good nick, despite the rain, centre wicket area a little sticky. Bendigo through to the GF.

I think that's my season done now.

Had a couple of runs (albeit fairly slowly) at umps training the past few weeks. Think I am probably a little fitter than last season having played a full season of cricket, and actually training most weeks as well. Fitter, but also probably fatter!

Had an overview of the new rules, think I a clear on them, however to see them implemented will be good. The one thing I am a little unsure on is the new kick in rule. So ok we clear ALL the players out of the area (marked by an imaginary line from the top of the goal square, extending out to the boundary either side) and move the full back/player on the mark back 10 metres (not 5 metres) from the top of the goal square. So can a player lead into this new protected zone to receive the ball from the kick in? I will clarify that one tomorrow night at training.

Got an U/14's trial game Sunday to blow the cobwebs out. Then I am having a week off, as I return to SA for son's wedding.

The season proper starts April 6th. I have requested to do Womens Sunday Arvo games this season. Let's see what they give me!

1st game into the legs. 8.5 kms going by my fit bit. Reasonable standard in the first half, some coast to coast play. Warm day players and umps fried by 3/4 time. Beer O’clock now and an extremely cold Carlton Draught not touching the sides.

My lad has been asked if he would consider doing some u14/16 Female games this year, $85 a game  and can do one after the other, $170 for 3 hours work on a modified field so doesn't even have to run far

Take it. I've done a few of these games, and they can turn into cross country wrestling if you're not careful. One day I just got sick of throwing it up all the time, so I looked for any infringement, to pay a free just to open the game up.

The lad can shout you a few beers Dutchy!

Interesting game this morning, a melee broke out near the coaches box and an official got involved and clocked an opposition player! I was breaking up the melee at the time and didn’t see it, but my partner did. Ejected from the bench, see ya pal. Will be interested to know the penalty this clown gets.

With my lad's cricket going to the GF and only one weekend off between seasons (which our horse ran on) I've got two weeks before the season starts and I've done Jack Shit.

Got asked to do a C Grade game on Saturday just, I was only asked on the Friday night after I'd demolished about 10 cans at a cricket presentation, I didn't get the official text or call so I left it alone, I should've got a game under the belt though.

Penalty?

Not heard yet, will report when I do. Life wouldn’t surprise.

Heard on the weekend the club official (Assistant Coach) got an 18 week ban for hitting an opposition player. Also learnt that any sanction over 16 weeks, equates to a life ban.....

2 games this weekend. A one sided U19's where I got some advice from the sidelines from the team who were 100 points up. There is no pleasing some people!

Womens game yesterday, 2 teams playing their first ever game. The girls had a crack, skills were awful, but you couldn't criticize the endeavor.

Just finished (well a month ago) umpiring up here in Darwin.

Hot, did I say hot?? Worst Wet season ever IMO (I've done 17 of them)

Managed to finish off with getting the Div 2 (third grade GF) which was a good game that was won by the Saints Premier League GF side of three years ago.

Good group to run with and got to do a few games with my son when he was on the boundary.

No we are both in the Umpiring Academy up here (me as a coach and he as a boundary0. He's an outside chance to go to the Aust U/15s Schoolboy Champs in Launceston this year as a boundary umpire.

A couple of games into the legs this round.

Anzac Day womens game, uneventful. Huge crowd (1,500 - 2,000) to begin with as it followed on from a Mens div 1 game. The home team were put to the sword early on & the crowd lost interest fairly quickly. To the point where in the last quarter there were only a handful watching & I could hear the caller from the Thursday night Eyes down bingo in the clubrooms!

Another womens game yesterday, Close up until 3 quarter time, then the home team got on top, coached by an ex Bombers AFL player, he has a few daughters on the team, one of whom kicked 3 and was a livewire up forward - chip off the old block.

A few more games this weekend.

Sat am U/19’s uneventful game. Played at Heidelberg North or West can’t remember which. Anyway it’s where Boomer plays now. Didn’t see him out there for the early game.

Sun Arvo Women’s game. Pretty awful and ended up yellow carding 2 chicks late in the game for unduly rough play. Breeze favoured the Northern end all game so I worked hard in the first half, and cruised around in the second.

Will probably be doing 2 games back to back next Sunday. Knees are ok so far.

I've been doing just 17's and B Grade so far this season, it's a handy gig, games are of a decent standard, back to back so I'm done in time to watch the bigger races for the afternoon.

I have the same gig this week but then a twilight women's game, just means them beers are going to have to chill a bit longer.

Shit's going to get hectic now as I've put my hand up to umpire in two additional leagues, chuck in my daughter playing in two teams, same as my son, I coach two junior teams and could be umpiring 5 or 6 games a weekend, I'll be going to work for a break.
