which is not bad considering town sizes ans area's.

i didn't want to get into a pissing contest, the BLG has unearthed some great talent for years, but they aren't the be all and bloody end all of football.

what do you base your worst list of leagues by??
you're obviously very clever because i have been involved at a great southern club and they have won the association matches against river murray league every year for the past 3 or 4.
on these facts i would say great southern is at least better than river murray!
im interested in your reasoning behind this decision!

agree with u BJ I dont think ned has a good knowledge of the gsfl,the top 5 sides in the GSFL would beat most div 2 amateur sides. I have seen a lot of different leagues and would rate GSFL in the top 8 associations.willunga and langhornes would beat a lot of sides in other leagues

Heath Commane and Brad Symes played majority of footy at Trinity College and then Centrals.

How much did they actually play in the Gawler league?????

plains league very av barossa districts would beat balaklava by 25 goals

Four Payers were selected from APFL Association side to represent the Central Side who went on to win country champsionship and Two out of the four were very prominent, Joel Wilson was i think third best player of the series with 9 Votes or there abouts and Brad Valentine was picked on the wing in the Country Team of the Year.

Both these players play for Hummocks Watchman Eagles in the APFL and represent the League any chance they get.

The point i'm trying to make is that The APFL is more country than the BLG and i would go so far as to say that if you were to take all imports out and played a rep side from both the BLG might be in trouble.

Hummocks who have Dominated the APFL in recent years would probably be top four in the BLg and that is with No Big Name imports!

So don't be so ignorant as to say that 2007 BLG Premiers Barossa who have spent Bucket Loads on players (i know because i've spoken with them) would beat a side that came Second in the APFL grand final by 25 goals, i think you should either say why you think so, or shut the hell up, you goose!!!

Just a side note to the above:
Hummocks had 3 players in the SA Country Side that played the Amateur U/23 side on the weeked
Joel Wilson (Hummocks) got best on ground for the Country team

Two Riverland players were named in the team after last year's carnival - neither of them were able to play, as they are back in the NT now.

Peter Safralidis (currently at Berri) was named in that side as one of the replacements.
Pinnaroo's Sunyl Vogt also got a late call up, as did another bloke, but I don't know who he was.

When you're talking about the strength of leagues, think you need to also take into account the size of the populations. For example Mid-West has about 3500 that supplies 6 teams and very few paid players, compared to places like Kadina, Clare, the big Riverland towns, Mt barker, which have only one maybe two teams who also fork out quite a bit of dough. On that basis, I think you'd find the EP teams, and the Mallee as strong as anyone, esp in A's, probably drop off a bit in the B's.

Great thread, I agree completly that some of these leagues are restricted by population and also by the distance from Adelaide and other large country centres. I also think that there are many varying styles of football played throughout the different leagues. Some are hard, in and under and others are more free flowing and running. I think this would make a large difference in interleague games.

IMHO top 5 in order

SAAFL D1 (Clearly the best)
SFL (Have not seen WB,but the top 5 SFL teams are great teams)
Western Border (Every one goes on about this league,i'd love to see a match)
Hills Central (Not as good as the SFL,dont get me wrong some bloody good sides though)
Great Southern (Very competative league,top sides are classy and tough)

Whilst were talking about clubs that produce players my club (Kenilworth) currently has Simon Goodwin (Crows captain),Jace Bode (Melbourne defender) and in the SANFL Brad Sugars (Glenelg), Tom Rishbeth (Sturt).2 or 3 years ago we had 4 representatives for SA at the U18's carnival which SA just missed out on going top in overtime. Not bad for a SAAFL D5 club......

kenilworth have had some good juniors...although id hardly say they were committed to the club...gary colmer was the footy director down at kenilworth and had a role at sturt, these lads would play for there "real clubs" saturday and garry would pick them all up to fill up his side on a sunday...

Yeah maybe,but their profiles all say they played for Kenilworth and AFL cheques get directed at the club.Don't think Brad Yeomans and Brad Sugars played for Sturt........

After A1 Amatuers i think the quality drops off significantly. Top sides from other leagues are quality however the difference comes in the depth of the league. Top five - six are good, bottom 5 are terrible. Seems to be a common theme amongst other leagues.

Some of these leagues should reduce to seven or eight sides with the perennial strugglers immalgamating.

In reality most of the other leagues, particularly Hills League are four - five team comps with the rest making up numbers.

In fact I would probably go as far to say A1 and A2 are better standard thatn the rest taking in to consideration the depth of the comp.

Just about spot on i reckon, although i would definately have SAAFL D2 above Hills, maybe above Western Border but not sure. The only other league that may challenge for the lower spot might be the Barossa League which i know very little about.

Yeah fair point,tell you what some of the top 1 or 2 sides going through to div 5 are bloody good teams to but the standard drops way off after those 2 as you go down the divs. I just based my decision on GSFL and BLG purely on that i doubt Barossa Districts would beat Langhorne Creek or Willunga.But i'd back Port Districts against 99% of country teams definatly. As I have mentioned on previous threads I have seen the Sunraysia League which is just over the border. There are some great teams up there and I know for a fact they wipe the floor with the Western Border League each year they play their intra-league.I'd say Western Border dont have all their guns playing but i'd rate the top sides up Sunraysia par with the SFL for sure.Mind you there is a fair population up there for the amount of teams.....

Add Dylan Pfitzner to that list. The amount SANFL premiership players to have been recruited from the B&G has gone up increasingly since 2000

Div 3? I don't think so. None of the Div 3 sides would play finals in any of the above country comps. Yes Div 1 is the clear stand out but it is contentious after that. For all round depth you would probably have to go with Division 2 next but sides like Willunga & Mt.Lofty would smash most Div 2 sides.

After that it is really tight between the GSFL, SFL and Hills Central comps. Haven't seen the Western Border comp so cannot comment but if it is as good as everyone says it is then you would have to throw them in to the mix.
