It's funny. Whenever WA footy is involved in a showcase event, there is a high probability that it will be a fizzer. The state match was a farce, the 2nd Semi was more than a bog standard affair as Claremont were on the prowl.

Come the GF, the Tigers were toothless - why, nobody knows. Boy are we sick of moneybags Subiaco dominating matches like this.

BW, why are Subi the moneybags, compared to other clubs? I know everyone hated East Perth when they won their flags as they had all the Eagles reserves. Who do you follow?

They get a share of the corporate dollars at Subiaco Oval as the traditional owners of the ground.

IIRC, they traded away some ground ownership rights in exchange for the ownership of the corporate hospitality suites. As you could imagine this brings in some healthy coin and allows them to buy the best players going around.

Talk of Geelong starting a dynasty ... pah, Subiaco will be very strong in the WAFL for a long time because many WAFL clubs are not cash rich and don't have the sponsorship resources that they have (Western QBE and Medibank to name just their major sponsors) and other clubs cannot outbid the Lions to buy the players they can get.

Thanks BW, obviously a massive advantage for them. Is there any ways being thought around it? Do the other clubs get a share from Subi at all, through the AFL games?

Just an annual dividend but all 9 clubs get it, so they still have a healthy financial advantage.
