Southern Districts Zone team boycotting Country Champs Carni

i have recently heard that the Southern Districts team is not participating in the carnival this year due to the SANFL reallocting leagues within the zones.

supposedly the River Murray FL have been moved into another zone and as a result SD's have said 'if they go, we all go' and will now not be playing in the 2008 country champs.

considering they have been very successful for the last 5 or 6 years (won last year and 4 out of 5 before that) it would surely be a big blow to the carnival, let alone a huge disappointment to any of the players who wanted to be involved.

anyone know of anymore or got any views on this?

Watch this one with interest as there may well be a Southern Districts up there yet!

But yes these rumours are almost definitely true as River Murray were voted into the South East zone by the Affiliated Leagues delegates! QUite a messy situation but hopefully one that gets sorted out and that the delegates pull there heads in and reinstate us players as thats what its about. THE PLAYERS.

I know there will be some very annoyed and frustrated players if they elect to not send a side as it will cost some good footballers the opportunity to represent the state at the Australian Championships in late July.

Bloody oath BJ.
A chance to play against the best in country SA, then country Australia is nothing to be laughed at.

I'm with you there BJ. A few old nobs could ruin a chance of a lifetime just so they can have bragging rights at the next delegates meeting.

In the words of Derryn Hinch, "shame, shame, shame"

I think this sounds a little too ridiculous. Southern Districts had to get split up since they've nearly double the clubs to pick from compared to the next biggest zone. The GSFL has programmed a weekend off for the State Champs.

Very dissapoiting BJ, Used to be great weekends away, Good standard of footy and a few Brews each night. In saying that, the SANFL havent sent our state country side away for the last couple of champs Anyway.

Im thinking there will be an SD side there anywayz. The SANFL will make sure there is as im sure they want some of there players for the State side that is going to Melbourne in late July. However until i see the side on the plane/bus waving goodbye i wont hold my breath.

Indian some great trips were had and some great memories and friendships made!!

The SANFL also re-zoned Northern Areas to Northern Cities to try and make them competitive.

Murray, Mallee & Barrier have also been zoned another league, Barossa & Light I think?

They would make up a fair chunk of the MMB side you'd think.

Taking both Northern Areas and Barrosa and Light out of Centrals hits them pretty hard.

Suppose these things are based on number of teams and population, but some if it doesn't seem logical. Northern Areas to Northern Cities is fair enough. Barossa would logically fit in with the Central Zone, but not MMB, who with they don't share any common boundaries, so why shift them? The RMFL would seem logical to rezone to MMB rather than SouthEast (although they do border leagues in both zones) if they wanted to dilute South Districts strength.

Southern Districts wont be entering a team consisting of the 4 leagues River Murray, Hills, Great Southern, Southern and Kangaroo Island.

There instead will be a team entered consisting of Hills, Great Southern, Southern and Kangaroo Island. It will be run under the banner of the KIFL and will be organised and run in conjunction with the SANFL. The team will meet this Sunday and next Sunday at the South Adelaide FC and the squad will have 2 light sessions and will be picked on the 2nd Sunday.

There are plenty of political issues that have arisen from this boycott that the league presidents (Hills, Great Southern, Southern and River Murray) and this is why the side has fallen apart and will not be run by the regluar organisers (league presidents and other league committee members). Both sides (SANFL and League presidents) have tried to reach an agreement but neither side would budge and whether it be right or wrong at least some SENSE has prevailed and all players from these 5 leagues can give themselves the opportunity to play State Footy in late July.

So basically the guys organising S.D. in the last few years are out the door and there are new administrators with the same players except RMFL to select from?

Pretty much mate. The SD organisers couldnt get there heads around the fact that RMFL got moved to the South East to even up the competition a little. If anyone lost out of the rezoning it was the Central zone!! They lost 2 leagues to other zones so if anyone should be kicking up a fuss its them!!
