Moonta Footy Club known as the Demons (as Melbourne) were once known as the "Turks". I have no idea were it came from, they changed around the late fifties I think :? :o

Our boys although are Trinity or Lions they are also referred to as the "TOSSERS" Trinity Old Scholars "TOS" "TOSSERS"???? The boys actually do also use this themselves sometimes! I guess most are used to it from school! It took me ages to get used to it.

But i guess its better then being referred to as the cream puffs?????? :-k

Moorook-Kingston used to be the Beetles.
Apparently they had a bloke named Lennon that played for them...

CN - I think the actual story a club official liked the Beatles so much he suggested it and everyone agreed.
Not sure when we changed from the Beatles to the Warriors. Could've been when we got some old Woodville guernseys.
The club's theme song is A Grand Ol' Flag and we have that because club legend Harley Swanbury played for Norwood.

They were I think. Also known as the Panthers - due to the pink in their guernsey.

Is it weird I answered your question on here?

I Still think that "Port Power" takes the cake. That is the most pathetic name in the AFL by a long way. Ironbank Thunderer's is pretty poor as well.

If I remember, I will get an article out of an old SFL Record (the Victorian SFL that is) with a rundown on all of the weird nicknames over the years in their league.

Try some of these for size from the ones I remember elsewhere:
Congupna Road (named after the main road of their town!)
Blighty Redeyes
Tallygaropna Roadrunners
Tyabb Yabbies
Nathalia Purples (or Purps)
Girgarre? Wombats
Willaston Donnybrookers
Baldivis Brumbies
Swan View Viewers (how lame)
Newcomb Dinosaurs, now are the Power (two bad names for the one club)
Ocean Grove Grubbers
Eltham Old Collegians Turtles
Doveton Doves (boring!)
Queenscliff 'Coutas (as in Barracoutas)
Modewarre Warriors (how dull!)
Research 'Searchers (how long did that take to decide upon!)

In the Benalla District League, there used to be a team called the Barbers (Devenish?) because they wore red and white stripes.

Rugby League
Yenda Blue Heelers
West Wyalong Green Machine

Nathalia also got the "Violet Crumbles" tag because they wear purple with a gold NFC on their guernseys.

Another one from Victoria's SFL:
Clayton Clays (WTF?)

Some unofficial tags given to clubs in the Victorian Amateurs in the 1980s by one of their Budget scribes included the:
Ormond Chocolate Soldiers (brown with blue)
North Old Boys NOBS
University Reds Anarchists

Benchy,

Prior to going into recess, Devenish were indeed the Barbers, the logo on the stubbie holders etc was a mean looking cartoon bloke in a Devenish jumper holding a razor in one hand and some scissors in the other...looked good!

Also, the Wombats in the Ky League are actually Lancaster, not Girgarre.

Cheers,

that just helped me answer a question. i had bought a black and purple guernsey with NFC on the front of it from Ebay not knowing whose jumper it was. Now i do. and whenever i wear it at training the name violet crumble does come out.

One I heard today from the VAFA - North Old Boys (NOBS) merged with St Pats to become North Old Boys-St. Pats a couple of years ago - with some of their opposing sides handing them the unflattering nickname of NOBS-P

... think about it!
