Ive always thought about it and as long as you keep control of yourself you should be fine. If you have an early game well maybe lay off a bit but otherwise have a few. Personally i have to agree with some of the other comments. Have a beer or 6 (maybe not in the first hour) and then maybe a rip that night or in the morning and your set. I think Wareing down at the dome has a few rips even in the club rooms. May just work for him but not to sure about sharing it with any one else though ;)

Never ever had more than one or two on a friday before footy, as I thought it was disrespectful to the lads who'd missed out on a game.

Now that my club has chosen to "retire" me at 22, :partyman: :partyman: :partyman:

frothies on a friday is a given for me. doesnt matter if its footy or cricket. as long as your no getting smashed and still get your 8 hours that night. i think most grown adults know what will damage their performance. if you can still perform, who cares. most will draw a line for themselves. no sex and no beers on fridays etc. its country sport........

there is a story of a bloke in Tumby Bay who thought he was dropped to the B Grade for the first time of the year so went out and got completely pissed, rolling home at about 4 in the morning. However, a phone call from the A Grade coach in the morning meant the poor bugger ended up playing on the wing in the A Grade all game and ended up getting 2nd best for his efforts

Throws the idea of preparation out the window a little bit

Hear those sorts of stories all the time...

Best one was a cricket story, where the guy named as twelfth man got well and truly smashed the night before, had a few frothies when he woke up, and was still drunk during the game...

As it happened, one of the boys pulled out, and he was put in the team... he batted about 8 or 9, and I was batting 11.

We put on sixty or seventy, of which I scored two or three, he bludgeoned the rest, and took a few wickets as well.

And he had the obligatory spew part way thru...

I've had up to 6 beers before the past 3 matches, and I've played poorly.
But...the team has won all 3 games too!
I'll be keeping off it this weekend to see how I go without.

How'd this theory go for you Baron?

Well.....my plans went slightly awry.
Went to put my tips on at the local and had my free beer there.
That turned into 3 more at the bowls club.
And that turned into a carton between a mate and I at home!

But...probably played my best game of the year!

So...the lesson is: Don't drink 3-6 beers on a Friday. Make sure you drink HEAPS more and you'll be awesome!

Oh Baron... You are my hero...

Only issue I got playing was, if I wasn't PERFECT in my preparation, the coach would blame my lack of preparation...

If I prepared perfectly, they finally accepted that my ordinary form was because I am poo at football!!!
