Yes im happy to beer-bate politics with anyone on here.

Despite the clear left-right differences in views amongst us all, lets just be thankful we have the right to express our view in any way we wont without the fear of being persecuted. We a bloody lucky to be Australians, no matter how heated it gets, never forget that.

My ancestors are all beer lovers and I have followed in this tradition. I too will join the debate.

Glad I finally found a reason to contribute to the politics forum!

OK guys I'll play too. My favourite beer is Asahi dry brewed, if I can't get Dortmunder DB, but I am flexible and tolerant. My concern was just that I have seen politics create problems on other web sites, and even  in families.

I have often thought politics could be improved by banning lawyers from entering it - all their training is oppositional rather than cooperative. I suspect, too, that the next logical step would be to preclude anyone who actually wanted to be a politician and only accept those who could be persuaded it was a duty.

Some years ago, when I lived in his electorate, I looked Alexander Downer in the eye and told him I thought we [Australians] had made two mistakes in 1901 - federation itself, and agreeing to pay our previously unpaid politicians. He disagreed, but was pleased to be able to grin and say, "Even the Democrats would agree with us there!"

Psyber: You said "My favourite beer is Asahi dry brewed." How did that come about? Have you spent time in Japan, or is that a readily available beer in Australia nowadays?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

It's every-bleedin-where on tap at $6-odd a throw. Very nice, but not life changing.

I first had it in Borneo actually, but yes it is readily available in Oz now. I like it and Dortmunder because they are dry brewed, not sweet and sugary, and have a full flavour. The higher alcohol content that results is not pronounced. As a former South Australian, and a Norwood supporter, I have tried to like Coopers, but have always found it a bit thin and spiritous, despite its lower alcohol content, just as I have found Fosters too sweet. VB is not bad and I occasionally drink it with some acquaintances who are Hells Angels in SA, when I visit. [No, I'm not a memberof HA - just know a few..]
