Well it was the 70s, I'd just been separated from my first wife a few weeks, and she was attractive, enthusiastic, and persistent...

I came to regret that moment of weakness - well several moments of weakness over the next 6 months - when her husband was promoted and transferred to head office interstate and she started muttering about not going to join him after he'd already been there a couple of weeks while she stayed back to sell their house in SA and get the furniture packed and moved.

I then had to make it clear that she shouldn't base her decision on any fantasy that I was going to take on her and her kids, as she'd known all along that wasn't on. Then, a few days later, I offered to help out by driving her and the kids to the airport, and she snapped, "You just want to make sure I go!"

What could I say, except silently remind myself to not get into that sort of situation ever again?

Think again. Even Canada rejected them. We've been swindled or maybe we never stopped bending over after we booted Johnny.

I'm in the wrong division at work to have the best understanding of the issues, but my understanding is that the main problems are with the VTOL and STOL versions of the aircraft, and as a result the whole production cycle has been pushed back and our conventional ones too

The money has already been allocated from governments since Howard, including Labors stint. Apparently.

"Software problems" are apparently also causing cars like BMW and Range Rover to suddenly conk out in the fast lane, or jump out of automatic into paddle mode. And they cost enough - let alone the billions these planes do.

It makes you wonder about the merit of depending on electronic rather than simpler mechanical control methods.

I'm reminded of the belittling of the USSR's MIG fighters during the Cold War era for lacking electronic systems and depending on valves rather than transistors or chips for the little they had. In fact the MIGs had an edge there - flying anywhere near a nuclear explosion or any other major electromagnet pulse would permanently fry the chips and transistors, but the valves would just reboot and go on working and therefore so would the MIGs while more "advanced" planes would fall out of the sky or at least become uncontrollable.

you obviously know nothing about engineering or building any complex system. obviously there are issues. always going to be.

The main issue is that the airframe was tested DURING production. Unheard of in any other vehicle produced.

The platform wasnt proven to be bug free, before the plane went into production....ridiculous.
The story being that they could be fixed during production...unheard of way to produce a multi million dollar plane.

They are now saying that by the time we take delivery all the systems and aircraft itself will be perfect, and the best aircraft ever.

Yeah right!
