Labor have been particularly poor in this sitting thus far

Shorten has taken his foot off the throat, but the PM looks like a broken and desperate man.

Interesting when listening to the Dorothy Dixers, apparently the new Victorian government is looking to stamp out the practice in their parliament. Novel idea, but not sure how they can get rid of them though.

Turnball on the front foot. Ask the captain if he could go in at the wicket and blasted the attack.

Too good.

Interesting last week how Abbott tried to differentiate his mob from the ALP - well I guess he forgot about all the Peacock/Howard/Peacock/Howard crap of a few decades ago.

Not to forget the Liberal party locally with Olsen deposing Brown as leader/Premier.

if Hockey loses his job then so does Abbott, so he's safe as houses until Abbott gets the arse.

Considering where he was positioned, I think Tony Abbott has done remarkably well out of this spill motion.
Most importantly he's kept his position without a challenge.
But he also hasn't had to lose anyone along the way.
The two main people under fire were Joe Hockey and Peta Credlin and both are still in their position.
From a Liberal perspective, this denotes stability, which any sort of shuffle would not have - and would've reminded everyone of Labor's dysfunction.
All seems reasonably quiet at the moment, with a seemingly unified approach.
But...for how long?

not sure that they got out of the Spill all that well given the submarine debacle

perhaps the spill was really just a message to Tony and no one was going to challenge

I'm talking more in terms of Abbott's power base and party perception.
For him to have gone through this and kept his position and not lost any of his key supporters/staff is significant.
However, the subs issue doesn't look good and it will be interesting to see if it will be used against him when the rumblings start again.

well from my perspective, the result of the spill showed his days are numbered and there is a lack of confidence in him.

the embarrassing for Abbott on Monday in QT was how Turnbull was able to smash back a question which he really didn't have to answer.

if that same question was put to either Abbott or Hockey it would've got messy...

yes Credlin has kept her job, but she is no longer always in the PMs ear, that message from his members clearly got through

Fair call.
So, your thought is that in keeping their positions, it's a message that if the members lose faith in Abbott, the rest will go down with him?

I watched Tuesday's QT and thought it was interesting how restrained Julie Bishop and Christopher Pyne were as they sat in the background and the PM and Turnbull each came up to the dispatch box. Very passive compared to the usual brouhaha of those in the key seats.

Yep, If Abbott goes its clear Hockey goes as well and perhaps Pyne. And by reports Pyne was scared of the spill by making calls to secure his position or even improve it if a new leader came along.

the clear stand outs for the Libs is Turnbull - not so much for his handling of the NBN as such, but how he conducts himself with interviews and in QT.
Bishop is probably in a deadheat with Turnbull.

my doubts on Bishop being PM are only due to the conservative nature of the Libs, and as she is doing such a good role with Foreign Affairs it would be hard to move her from that position, its a position that they are winning - if that makes sense.

yes Pyne has been a lot more subdued this week - THANKGOD he is just plainly embarrassing, just as the member for Wakefield is embarrassing by continually being evicted!

As a result of the subs, it would seem Edwards is a dead man walking.
There are some very, very angry Liberals via his comments. Although, apparently he's not all that worried about it.

And...the non-spill has not sated the backbenchers who wanted blood. They're still agitating.

Abbott's losing the plot as each day goes by.

The Human Rights Commission seems to be doing it's job as an independent body and Abbott's response to their report is nothing short of disgraceful. We all know who is being partisan and it's not the Commission.

The more Abbott tries to show the world what a great leader he is, the more stuff ups he's going to make, the stupider he looks.
