Abbott/Liberal Govt Watch

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

[quote="Jimmy_041"]Interesting: I just drove past my usual polling booth and there's about a 500m line
I used to live across the road and I've never seen that before at 11am
Tonight is going to be very interesting quote

Rant begins -

I can give a few possible reasons for delays occurring, in their wisdom the Electoral Commission have said that family members cannot work in the same polling booth where one of them has a superior position to the other. This happened to my sibling and I, we have run a large northern suburbs booth for years and this time we were questioned as to whether we were related. When we said we were they said one of us would have to move to another booth. The ludicrous thing is that if we had a different surname it wouldn't have been queried, I know for a fact that other people who are related are running booths together today and it wasn't questioned because they have different surnames and didn't say anything. We were also told friends were not to work together, how the hell they were going to police that I don't know.My niece, nephew and sister in law have worked with us at previous elections and it wouldn't have been questioned if they had put their name down to work this time as their surname differed to mine. As me and my sibling told them to shove it up their arse they lost two people with combined over 40 years experience working in and running polling booths and 80 percent of the staff that worked at the last election (most of whom had from 5-20 years experience) said the same. One of them wasn't even contacted after registering their interest on the AEC website. The booth has been taken over by someone who has never run a booth at any election and whose only experience was as a 2IC at a small booth. This has happened elsewhere I believe as well. Hence you have an increase in inexperienced staff to run and work at the booths.

Also the training they provided was this time outsourced to a company who had people doing the training who had no idea as to what was involved in the electoral process. They simply read a script and said any questions ask your OIC. So any inexperienced staff were stuffed if they had queries. The training books they used to provide have been canned, it is all online now. These training manuals were a very useful resource during the day if you needed to jog your memory about something.

The booth I went to late this morning was a shambles, people running left right and centre and the setup was bloody awful. I don't blame the poor bloke running it, I blame the f***wits for putting people in this position and providing them with next to no support. So if you get stuck waiting don't take it out on the people there, blame the idiots running the AEC. I can see the shit hitting the fan this election.

Rant ends.

Comparatively maybe 10/15 that had Turnbull

The Nick Champion corflutes I saw didn't have an ALP logo on them just written as something like "Australian Labor" interesting.

I've seen plenty of NXT ones for Richard Inwood in Wakefield.
