There was a very thorough study done at UQ a few years ago on its effects on the immature brain which found tht the incidence of Schizophrenia was increased by 20 to 25% in under 17 year olds using MJ daily. This did not show up in older users, other than those with pre-existing such illness.. That's why we need to be able to select out specific safe compounds from the THC component for medicle use.

And yes MJ does impair driving capacity.

I wouldn't think alcohol (or any drug for that matter) to be that great for young brains either would it?

I think that data would support limiting it to 18+ or something rather than banning it entirely?

(I still wouldn't use it if legal so I don't really feel strongly either way other than it seems a bit hypocritical to lump it in with the worst drugs)

My thoughts are about people who think driving under the influence of cannabis is better than alcohol

Im not saying pot is harmless and yes it can impair your driving ability.
What I'm saying is its ridiculous to want to send someone to jail for possessing a small amount at a concert for instance.
At festivals they are testing pills before the kids take them ffs.

For the record I haven't drank alcohol for 15 years and don't miss it .

Anyone who says MJ doesn't affect you long term has not known people who it has affected...

From personal experience I think a couple of puffs on a joint impair my concentration more than a couple of glasses of wine or beer, but I only tried it twice, as I didn't like the effect of being dulled that much. Admittedly, it was the "good stuff" my Hell's Angels acquaintaces at the time kept for themselves...

The induction of much higher risks of Schizophrenia in the young concerns me, and I'll be much happier with MJ products when we can separate the useful alkaloids from the THC which seems to be the harmful and non-therapeutic component.

My experience years ago of "coke" straight of the tree when overseas was a more positive one, but I've never bothered to try that again either. I value my brain function too much to muck around with it.

I read an article the other day saying THC can prevent Alzheimer's.
Not sure of its validity though.

No, they will stay open until 9 or 10 pm 7 days a week. Maybe until 12 midnight or 24 hours in some cases depending on the viability. What small businesses are open during those hours anyway?

With my work I do a hell of an amount of travel intrastate. My favourite is when I go to places like Mt Barker, Mt Gambier and Berri (where trading hour laws are far more relaxed to assist the economy and tourism) and I see those posters up everywhere claiming that de-regulation will kill our economy and small business. These are locations where the hours are pretty much de-regulated anyway and it may add seriously another 1-2 hours per week.

Our Woolworths are open to 8pm on both a Saturday and Sunday nights.

It’s brilliant and surprisingly extremely often that I’m there between 5pm-8pm
