Gozu wrote:HARD-RIGHT members of the NSW Liberals have had a major victory in a factional stoush over candidate preselections, with the Supreme Court stopping the annual general meeting of the state branch on Saturday.

NSW Liberals president Arthur Sinodinos, a federal senator, says the party is reviewing the Supreme Court injunction.

"This is a disappointing result, but we are examining the arguments and considering next steps," he said.

The decision throws into disarray NSW preselections for the 2013 federal election and is a blow to federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, who had wanted to avoid the debacle of 2010 when candidates were chosen too late.

Justice William Nicholas granted the injunction on Friday after NSW Liberal Party Central Coast branch member Denis Pogson filed an application earlier in the week.

At the heart of the internal brawl is a push to hold direct elections and to limit the state executive's powers to override branches and install its preferred candidates.

The hard right, led by NSW government minister Chris Hartcher, had wanted the changes to be voted on at the annual general meeting in Sydney - a request that was refused by the party's state executive.

He is in brisbane today, talking about finally a federal government putting money in to support the Gateway motorway extension/upgrade..

Finally, a federal government looks outside the boarders of the Sydney and Melbourne CBDs and helps out. This stretch of road everyday is gridlock, due to an explosion of population in the north of brisbane. Hate travelling this part of the motorway when i need to, i try and avoid it but the back streets get gridlocked also as everyone else tries the same thing.

But finally, its being looked into. Also , maybe to the federal governments, try and fix one of, if not the worst bottle neck in Australia, the Pacific Motorway/Gateway motorway through Springwood/Logan ,merge as the next off the list.. This i cant avoid everyday :( , its bad.

Another classic Abbott gaffe.
On radio today, he criticised the Prime Minister for being in New York, stating that she has no concern for the country and should be in Jakarta meeting with the Indonesian President re asylum seekers.

It just so happens that the Indonesian President is in New York with Julia Gillard!!!!!
Abbott has no idea about world matters!! ;)

True, quite silly of him.

However, "almost weightless" may not have been far out. ;)

Is it desperation stakes if they are reverting to his wife to change the public perception of him..

Despite the current Govt being probably the least popular in Australian history, I don't believe he is the preferred PM.

Quite an indictment really.

Bring back Turnbull.

Abbott critics should tune into question time right now. Abbott is completely dismantling Labor and it's support of speaker Slipper. he is a gun attack dog. All power to him, the country needs a tough abrasive PM instead of the stupid Greens led Gillard rabble that currently rules the treasury benches

A SENIOR Coalition frontbencher has been caught trying to secretly secure the vote of disgraced suspended Labor MP Craig Thomson in a damaging blow to Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's public vow to never take his "tainted vote".

A letter obtained by The Daily Telegraph confirms a formal approach was made to the MP and ex-union boss two days ago asking him to support a Coalition superannuation bill.

Yeah pretty ordinary. It is being claimed as a mistake by Cormann who has since said they wouldn't accept Thomson's vote. Either way it is bloody shabby politics.

A 'mistake' which was also accompanied by a personal invitation for a coffee and a discussion in Cormann's office. Something definitely not right about it just being a 'mistake', me thinks. ;)

ABBOTT 'CAUGHT OUT' ON USE OF PENSIONER'S POWER BILL

Labor says Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has been caught out in his use of a "pensioner's" electricity bill as part of his anti-carbon tax campaign.

In questioning the Prime Minister about Hetty Verolme's bill, Mr Abbott said the customer "nearly had a heart attack" when she got her most recent power bill.

It had more than doubled since her previous bill to $1,563 for the months of June and July, and Mr Abbott wanted to know what advice Julia Gillard had for the Perth pensioner.

He followed up with a supplementary question: "With an $800 increase in just one bill of which 70 per cent is due to the carbon tax, how can the Prime Minister possibly claim that Hetty Verolme's compensation is in any way adequate?"

Labor challenged Mr Abbott to table the bill in Parliament so it could verify Mr Abbott's claims, meaning it has now been made publicly available.

An electricity consumption graph on the side of the bill shows that most of the increase was due to a dramatic increase in power usage at Mrs Verolme's home.

Pretty silly to not ask to see her previous bill for comparison.
(The graph on mine is poorly positioned, and disappears when you turn off the payment stub to send with the cheque.)

He tries to play to the lowest common denominator too often. What I mean is too often he dumbs down the message so much (just playing the fear campaign card in spite of the facts) that he ends up making stupid mistakes like this.

He even did this without the pensioner's permission. She nearly had a heart attack when she realised her bill was being mentioned in parliament.
