If true I might have a reason to vote for someone. House prices will go even higher. Not to mention tax cuts. Northern Australia is in desperate need of more workers. So much work in Darwin.

as usual the pollys are only focused on western sydney in an election year, and have hung shit on abbotts idea of developing northern australia. Some have come out and said that the focus should be on sydney with its traffic jams rather than the rest of australia. It certainly is and election year.

I would love for north australia to develop well, being so close to Asia its strange how its not a major popualtion centre. Yes the weather is a factor but yeah, florida in the US has the same if not hgiher humidity and awful hot , at its popuation is 15 million

Weather is a major factor. So many people move north and can't make it past 2 build ups, sometimes not even that.

Saw on the tv News last night, Mr Abbott stuffing up when giving a speech, involving mention of Health policy.

It seems one of the terms he used was directly opposite to his party's stated policy.

Pretty sure its at the stage of being a discussion paper, not anything like actual policy! - The other part of the plan - farming from irrigating from the Ord River sounds interesting!

Saw on the News tonight Abbott with his policy booklet - he was chatting to Hockey who was alongside him "I really want to thank you Joe blah blah blah", was one of the most contrived things I've ever seen.

Perhaps Abbott should borrow Julia's cilice and get some blubbering going
Hasn't that been handed down from Labor PM to Labor PM over the years

Much better than other interviews I've heard him do.
He actually sounded quite relaxed

It works if you have a plan recoup that and the rest of the inherited deficit somewhere else over reasonable time.
I believe that has been mentioned elsewhere in his speeches.

Personally, I'd be for scrapping the paid parental leave idea completely, but it won't happen.
Both major parties promised a scheme, but only one believes it can get away with reversing that promise now, and still get the suckers to vote for it.

Question: why should I be paying people to take time off to have children?
Surely that's a family budgeting issue!

Once an Australian Government introduces them, they are Australian benefits whether you like them or not.

An especially valid consideration in an over-populated world.
I was at a presentation recently at Adelaide Uni where graphs shown demonstrated how present post Little Ice Age atmospheric CO2 level rises correspond more closely with general human population growth than with anything else. Tax the breeders, not everyone! ;)
