What are people thoughts on this issue ?

I am for one tired of seeing so much death over this.

Hamas hiding behind civilians , Israel trying to protect itself.
Saw on the news last night a tunnel into Israel from Gaza, and what they do to Israeli people. Kidnap them and beat them to death..
seeing whole neighbourhoods being flattened by Israeli bombs ....

On facebook and other social media when posts are made from newspapers and news channel on this its just Arabs and Israelis arguing over who has what .
Also heard last week that if Israel keeps firing bombs at the rate that they are then they will eventually run out and then be in more of a shit ..

America has over a billion dollars worth of ordinance on the ground in Israel, they have just signed off on selling Israel some emergency weapons.

Israel will never run out of weapons...

When I find the link with the info I'll post it...

Until the West stops blindly siding with Israel and treats the situation on its merits this conflict will never end.

Israel defend their right to exist but deny the Palestinians the same.

Israel claims the right to arm and defend themselves but deny the Palestinians the same.

Palestinians are not united and have splinter groups that cannot be managed, Israel act as one.

Israel claim the accept a 2 state solution but keep illegally occupying the West Bank.

Palestinians (Hamas) keep firing rockets into Israel to goad them and the Israelis gladly oblige even though they do little damage.

It's a faarking mess.

Anyone have any knowledge on what the initial trigger for this conflict was?

It's obviously over land, and I assume goes back many, many years..

Depends how far back you go.

Jerusalem is the holy place for Jews, Muslims and Christians.

It will never be solved.

Egyptians made the Jews slaves about 3500 years ago, so they've been at it for a while

I was listening to the radio on the way down here and there was a RC bishop saying how we have to look after and cherish the little children seeking asylum.
Sorry, but these hypocritical >Edited< who abused kids, hid it, denied it, covered it up, blamed everyone else, and are now fighting compensation through the Courts; lecturing the rest of us about looking after vulnerable children  Faaaaak off!!!!

Also, I thought it was nice how the carthos gave a couple of thousand dollars to their flock getting persecuted by ISIS in Iraq. Biggest corporation in the world: so generous. Probably lobbying the Govt to hand over millions instead.

Don't get me started - I'm only warming up

Good points. Check the borders of Israel when it was formed in 1948 and check Israel's borders now. Israel is continuing to increase its area by taking over Palestinian land and forcibly removing Palestinians from their homes and land. Israel built walls, each stretching hundreds of miles, to keep out Palestinians.

The Berlin was universally condemned until it was finally removed in 1989 but hardly a whisper but the walls Israel built which serves their own purpose just as the Berlin wall served East Berlin (and Russia's) own purpose.

Precisely.

I don't think anyone knows the answer to where Israel's borders are, or more specifically, what is the recognised border.

Quite an interesting article about how the situation is being played out in the American media.

In Australia at least it seems to be much less "pro Israel." Guess that happens when you (accidentally or not) blow up schools

USS Liberty incident

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Libert ... al_contact

Opening paragraph of the article of the above link

(quote) The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship, USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy motor torpedo boats, on 8 June 1967, during the Six-Day War.[3] The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two Marines, and one civilian), wounded 171 crew members, and severely damaged the ship.[4] At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula, about 25.5 nmi (29.3 mi; 47.2 km) northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.[1][5] (end quote)

Israel claimed it was mistaken for an Egyptian ship but crew from the U.S.S. Liberty state that the ship's flag and identification number and markings clearly indicated it was an American ship.

Israeli and American government investigations concluded that it was a mistake but there are crew from the U.S.S. Liberty (as above) and American politicians who dispute the findings.

Just pointing out the activities of Israel while they (Israel) and the rest of the Western world condemn activities of the Palestinians and other Middle East countries.
