You cant blame the clubs (virginia in your case) for the amount of points they recieve, it is set out by the so called Assoc Directors. It is calculated over the past 4 seasons not 2. The increase in points was decided by the Directors not the club delegates.

In regards to the reasons why some of you have come up with as to why Virginia shouldnt have the same amount of points allocated could be argued the other way. Yes Virginia is situated closer to higher populated areas but that also gives people more opportunity to go elsewhere. It also gives the younger players the chance to get a after school/weekend job. There is also a larger amount of choice in sports for people to choose from, not just footy in winter and cricket in summer like a lot of other areas.

The percentage ratio of Asian to others is also 2 to 1, this is no excuse at all. They have school on Saturdays and it is very hard to get the parents to allow them to play or train. Virginia had finally got one boy (u17's) to play which they thought may open to door for others to follow but unfortunatly due to his very limited knowledge and skill the flack he got from other teams was too much. He would come off after the games in tears, we would all like to think times have changed but the racial comments he got from a few gutless players on the field from other clubs was just too much. This then very quicky shut the door!!!

Not sure how true this is but I heard Opitz was keen for recruits to train and they didn't want a bar of it.

In fairness to onsong he cant help it if a player signs with a club then fakes a injury and heads back to his original club. I suppose onsong can only print the facts he gets.

You're probably right Pimpdaddy. I wrote what I did based on what I was told. I confirmed those facts several times with the source. Once the sh!t hit the fan, the story altered to a verbal agreement. As for the contract, well it's irrelevant regardless. Unless Peake cleared Hand, contract is void anyway. Wouldn't have been worth the paper it was written on, or not written on for argument's sake. I was messaged by a poster on here claiming Hand would defs be at Peake. But at the end of the day, what do you do, run with the club official's comments that you spoke to or a posters message who hides behind their online identity? The only disappointment for me is a few on here blaming me for making the whole story up. But truth be told, not even my imagination could
have thought up the chaos that has reigned over the last few weeks. Round one isn't far away tho lads. So never fear!

The lesson here is not to boast about your "recruits" until they run out on the park in round 1 or 2. It seems you just set yourself up for a huge let down

To the contrary SD, I don't think the word is "boast".
Supporters of clubs love to know (and read) about their club's recruits for the coming season.
It stirs them, builds hope of that elusive premiership, gets the place talking about what could be.
I don't feel let down at all. If anything, I applaud Virginia for having the balls to go on record and say what's happening at the club.
Unfortunate circumstances mind you.

Fair call, OnSong. I wasn't referring to yourself being let down more the Virginia supporters, players etc. I don't see how any this leaves egg on your face, rather on the face of Greg Phillips and Virginia. I agree I (like Virgina) would be excited also to have Wally committ but my point is I'm not sure its the right way to go, spreading the word about a gun player signing whom hasn't been cleared or signed a contract for that matter, your setting yourself up for let down in my view. Anyway, like you say it's got everyone talking about the APFL which can only be a good thing I guess.
Somehow I don't think Virginia will loose too much sleep over it.

I don't think Greg will either.
Like he said, he's moved on and is still thinking positive.
As for egg on his face, well, I don't think so. He said even without a siggy, said player gave him his word and that was good enough for him.
Sure, no contract was signed in the end but he believes 'a man is only as good as his word' and in this case, well, yeah. Enough said.

Exactly! Its one thing to spread word and mouth that you've signed this player, that player whatever but to tell the media that a player has signed, well you'd want to at least make sure he has trained a few times if you did want to boast about it. Definately not the reporters fault if he has been told by both the President and Coach that the player had signed.

For those interested, Yorke Peninsula (featuring Lower North cricketers Ryan Darling, Todd McPharlin, Matt Higgs and Sam Rowland) are playing in the final of the Bank SA Country Cup today against the South East.
Score is 3 for 120 off of 25 overs. R Darling 40n.o.
Will try and keep updated throughout the day.

On a different note MC, I hear Opitz wants his A graders to train this year.
This is a fair request IMO, but did it scare some recruits off who took the soft option instead?

:? Its always been a requirement for all grades to train, so a pretty fair request if thats the case. First I've heard about it to be honest, and not sure what you are referring too. We have been having high 20's and low 30's out numbers wise each week so I would say we have healthy numbers at training.
