Really interesting idea. One problem though is that if you increase the distance juniors have to travel, then that exacerbates the loss of juniors problem, which is the nub of the problem in HFL Div 2. Nairne had this problem when they migrated to Murray Bridge League a few years ago, and it took years to recover their juniors after returning to HFL. Be some seniors too, that wouldn't be a fan of some of the road trips.

I thought this straight away too. I understand it's only a concept but a Kersbrook v Port Noarlunga mini colts (for example) would be a bit of a challenge.

Just a thought, but how about fixturing that game (Kersbrook vs Port Noarlunga) at a neutral venue half way in between - say Echunga?

Play in a country league here in WA at the moment and the longest road trip is between us another team is 190km. One year when our club rooms were being rebuilt they tried a neutral venue and it didn't really work due to low crowds and it was harder to get volunteers etc.

Contexts are a little different though. These parents would be driving past 25-30 other football clubs in a different league (C9AFL) for an hour and a half to get to an away game, not just the seven other clubs in their own league.

I agree, you do what you have to do to make it work (the die hards anyway). The casual families will just look elsewhere for an easier option, either a different club (GSFL, BLG, C9AFL?) or different sport altogether.

The Adelaide Lutheran Sports Club is based in the South Parklands in the fringe of the city. Teams compete in a variety of football, netball and cricket competitions with a developing junior program and strong connection with past players. We attract a wide variety of players who consider us to be THE country club in the city.



2020 has been a challenging and complex year but one in which the club was able to get all three grades deep into finals, make a senior Grand Final and secure a fourth successive B grade Premiership. We competed in Division 7, 7R and C5 in 2020. The club is seeking a senior coach as well as B and C grade coaches for the 2021.



Expectations for the Senior Coach are:



Develop a club wide style of play and mentor coaches in lower grades
Ensure all teams are selected collaboratively with clear selection criteria
Play a significant role in the recruitment and retention of players.
Provide clear feedback and communication to players around selection, progress and opportunities to improve
Ensure training is well organised, focussed on game day strategy, is enjoyable, has variety and has objectives that are clear to the playing group.
Open to, and considers feedback from the committee, coaching team and playing group
Engage with all members of the ALSC community
Be an ambassador and role model to which players, spectators and game/club officials look to as a good example
Have a minimum Level 1 accreditation with Level 2 preferred.


We are also seeking applications for B and C grade coaches. These are significant player development and welfare roles with a high level of communication and player feedback expected. The ultimate aim is to contribute to the long term success of the A grade.

I do not know if Marion would go into that competition. They are happy with Juniors on Sunday. (They struggled previously with Saturday. They have there C grade playing Saturday as well before the A and B grade. All they need is to get into Div 4/5 and the travel distances will reduce.

Another handy forward returning for the Bankers this yr!!

Unfortunately lost a few regulars in particular the best player over the past 4 years Joel VP has done his knee which is a big blow. Will drop back to the pack but good opportunity for the younger lads to get a crack in the As. Should be a pretty even comp this year with everyone seemingly improved and Ironbank being less dominant.

Nope will be alright. We jumped back to the back this year with a lot of outs from last years side and then have had significant injuries over the past 3 weeks which we can't deal with which we may have in prior years. Ironbank 27.2 - has to be one of the most accurate score of all time surely?

Former Port Adelaide, Carlton and Birdwood junior Darren Pfeiffer made a return for Birdwood in it's centennial year in Saturday's upset win over fellow centennial club Kersbrook. Would be a dream GF if the two clubs reach it this year. Hills Country certainly lost those blow out matches of yesteryear and currently looking as competitive as its ever been.

Totally agree Cougar, Div 2 is the most even I've seen it. Even TV are much more competitive. Only worry is Juniors for a multitude of clubs but the seniors comp hasn't looked better.

Gone from hating TV to wanting to see them do well, hopefully they can built themselves up to be competitive from within, plus a few recruits, over the next few years like other clubs, Gum being a prime example from where they were. Presuming TV are spending a little bit but not excessively this year, and good on O'Sulllivan for taking up the cause.

On that, what were the scores from the weekend in the A's and B' and Minis? Only a couple games on Sporting Pulse'.

The lack of juniors is interesting. There seems to be a number of comps in Tassie that still run A's and B's and maybe u/18's but don't have anything between Auskick and that. I wonder if that is the future for Div 2, and how those comps make it work?
