Save you all $1.40

A VIRGINIA reserves player was allegedly shot in the leg with a ball bearing during the game at Two Wells on Saturday.
Ricky Russo was playing in the back pocket in the second quarter when he was struck on the calf by the projectile.
Two Wells Police suspect it was shot from a sling shot or similar device.
As a result, Russo had to leave the ground and was unable to play for the rest of the game.
Virginia Football Club president, Paul Starr, said the player was on crutches after visiting Sportsmed physiotherapists this week.
“It’s in the police’s hands now,” Mr Starr said.
“(The police) know about it and we’ve put in a complaint to get it sorted out.”
Mr Starr emphasised the club had no ill feelings towards the Two Wells Football Club.
“It’s nothing against Two Wells or anything, you get these bloody rabbits at every club but we just can’t work out why anyone would do that,” he said.
Mr Starr was watching the match from the other end of the ground when the incident allegedly occurred.
“I had no idea until I went to the huddle and they were talking about it,” he said.
“He (Russo) said it felt like a bullet.
“When he looked down, there was a ball bearing there.”
It was a frustrating setback for the returning footballer.
“He hasn’t been playing for years and decided to come back and have a game of footy,” Mr Starr said.
“He was more upset than shaken I reckon.”
Mr Starr was unsure how many matches Russo is likely to miss.
“I don’t know what the extent of the injury is as yet,” he said.

Considering it was Ricky who copped it, the list of suspects could be pretty long! He's never minding dishing out a bit.

In all seriousness though, it's a very dangerous and stupid thing to do. What if it hit him in the head??

If it turns out from the Police investigation that it did indeed occur as reported then the person shooting the projectile gets no sympathy from me or any other fair minded football lover. The full extent of the law needs to be brought down on him/her and appropriate punishment brought to bear.

Agree with Starry's comments and I can tell anyone and everyone the TWFC does not condone or support this behaviour from anyone attending its home ground.

Initially reading through the comments i was pretty angry with MH thinking this incident is hilarious. He didnt understand that there was two Russos, thats fair enough. This incident should never occur in normal society never mind at a country football ground. The Two Wells footy blokes seem like not a bad bunch of blokes, so i would assume that a person has done this not from the football club.

Went off 2 mins into the 3rd qtr and still got in the best players, who picks them SD? are they that much in love with Whitty he can play half a game (was a very good half) and still get in the awards?

Unfortunately Hazbeen, it reflected our performance. There weren't too many others who had better games, than a bloke that played just over a half! Seems strange, but it was probably the reality of the game for the magpies. No awards for 4-6 best players btw, just a mention in the paper. BP's are picked by 6 different people around the club (randomly selected members/supporters whom watch games with intent), 1 of which is the coaching staff.

If this is true, i know one full forward for hamley that will not be looking forward to going to two wells in the coming weeks.... But in all seriousness could not imagine it would be a footballer from there, they are a reasonable mob. But whoever it was needs to be found and punished. Preferably sooner rather than later.

I was surprised that you found the allegations humourous at all mate, I heard about it Sunday and even if it was heresay I wouldn't have passed judgement on it without investigating it a little myself. Oh well, you live and learn and you did state that your group was initially pin-pointed.
From what I gather, the perpetrator would be better off getting caught by the police, very foolish thing to do in such a great competition where I'm sure the clubs band together when needed.

I would think that there is a good chance that the opeople who did this will be caught. If you think about it, for the ball bearing to have done the damage that it did, then you would think it was shot from reasonably close range. Surely a bit of investigation could work out who were parked or sitting in that area. As MH says, some suss people sitting in an area that he recalls. Proving it may be another thing but i'm sure Two Wells people will work out who it is and can then work on weeding these idiots out of there club (assuming they are part of TWFC). Not a reflection on the club at all. As mentioned already, a lot of decent people there. But some wankers too, as with every club. Interesting that it was Rick Russo. Did some one say karma bus?

I surprised at Hound Dogs reaction as well. Safety of all players when on the field is paramount. There is no proof that it was from a Two Wells person, it could have just as easily been a Virginia person who was off target. Either way there is no place for it and the offender would be caught out pretty quickly.

Since you were in the vacinity Hounds and you say there were some "suss" people around, perhaps do yourself and your club a favour and contact the police.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

I find it suspicious MH was in the vicinity. Those long arms would be perfect to draw back a well-aimed shanghai! :-k

The group I had seen there werent people I'd reconised before! Contacting the police would be a waste of time as I never took much of it in at the time so I would have no info of substance to give them.

If that is the case there is a time and a place to sort out issues. Not when an individuals on the footy field and especially not with a sling shot. This gutless individual should have waited after the game and took him on one on one.
