You plains boys need to build a bridge. Over in the Western zone (current champions) they have 3 weeks a year set a side for rep footy.

In May inter-league matches used a a trial game for the inter-league carnival (Mortlock Shield played since 1936) on the June long weekend (netballers piss off to Adelaide for country champs).

Football country champs are in July so the seniors go to zone and the Western zone plays its u/17 carnival the same weekend.

I'm with you Heater. Obviously too close to the city and getting the smell of smog up their nostrils!!!

Its only me and Hounds so far against it so hardly all Plains boys are. For all I know my club and team mates could be all for having the weekend off. If this issue is the biggest one for our league and clubs next year then we are in a pretty good spot I reckon. I'm still personally against it though!

Its about time common sense prevailed. The APFL was the only league to have played and we all wonder why only 3 or 4 players put their hand up every year :roll: . It may seem weird for everyone to miss a week of sport for the sake of one footy carnival involving just a handful of our players but I think this move had to be made if we are ever going to take the zone weekend seriously in this league. Its pretty easy for people who never aspire to be or will never be selected to play zone to complain but seriously get over it, its one weekend in your life, go fishing or do something different for the weekend, you'll get 19 weeks of footy during the season to play or watch your local team.

Hang on Swamp. I remember in 2010 (when the league had the bye for it) the Mallala boys selected seeked clarification of the rule so they could avoid playing. I believe 2 of them post on this forum as well

Wonder if some of the plains boys against the weekend off would get selected? Or is it they lose a week's pay? Honestly , when you're looking at a showcase for country footy and its credibility outside the city, you'd think personal biases could be set aside. It's only ONE weekend!!!

Not all players get paid mate, some even hold committee positions, coach and work hard for their club and simply enjoy playing footy and dont want to have a week off so that an extreme minority can play in a zone game, must admit they probably dont have a boat or dodgy knees....

Having a bye would mean they would be able to play State Champs and not miss out on paid matches.

If a player is carrying an injury, there's no point putting your hand up. Your just gonna embarrass yourself at a higher level. I'm not saying everyone will jump at the chance if selected, what I am saying is that they deserve the chance to play without disadvantaging their home clubs. I wouldn't change a thing about 2010

I was lucky enough to represent Adelaide Plains in the early 80's in U/23. No big deal I know, but it was one of the true highlights of my limited career.

To any Prima Dona who won't represent APFL or ANY association for that matter, you really need to look ahead a few years. If you are not good or dedicated enough to go the whole hog, being chosen to represent your association is a HUGE HONOUR and should be respected, appreciated and honoured as such.

Pretty sure the arguement is about Zone footy, I believe the Association arguement is scheduled after the Points allocation arguement including how Long Plains are disadvantaged and how Hamley got so many....
