im with you westy, I was of the understanding that Willaston had most players in, possibly 4 at most out. United a couple down. Unsure of who exactly from either side.
As has been mentioned before, Trials are not really a true gauge.
Feedback from SGFC vs MFC was that Mallala was a lot fitter then SG, with a considerably higher foot and hand schools; mind you that was from Mallala supporters.
Mallala were cleaner, the wind was very strong and was a typical Mallala wind which they are accustomed to, my sources told me that South Gawler haven't faired too well as far as recruitment and Mallala were without 9 A grade starters including Parish and 2 x Montgomery.
Mallala had 4 giants that were taller than the tallest South Gawler player and their smaller players ran hard all day and didn't waste opportunities in front of goals like their opponents did.
Joel Montgomerie was outstanding as was their CHF.
Like I said before, Mallala did have the wind 2 out of 3 thirds so it was easier going for them, it was blowing a gale and very difficult to go forward and then 2 dobs the other way it was back deep in defence.

Couldnt agree more mate . It was good just to feel a bit body .i don't think you cAn take much out of a trial match full stop. It just an opportunity to give kids a go. Very rarely you have your strongest side on the pitch . If anything it gives a few blokes a bit of confidence. We will know where we are at round 1 against mallala as I think they will the bench mark.

Only problem is that it may give them FALSE confidence. I think in a good, competitive trial game, you CAN take a lot out of it. Not so much in the result (win or lose) but how your game plan and structures hold up. You're dead right about round 1 being the test though and I did hear that new kid Greenwood did ok.

Who's brainwave was that wonderful idea?
Willaston beat us by 12 goals on Sunday in the A Grade, we won the B Grade by about 5 goals. Both sides were pretty close to full strength so will be interesting to see how they track this year in their league and obviously how we go. They were just way too big especially up forward. Their new ruckman is a man mountain and was simply awesome for them, I expect him to be the dominant ruckman in the BLG this season. Game was played in top spirits with not 1 scrap which is what you want in trials.
Off to Warooka this Sunday for out annual match against the Southern Eagles so hopefully we get better as we have more matches under our belts, and gives our 2 new coaches another opportunity to look at the players in different positions. Also heard we have a 3rd trial lined up against Kilburn on the Friday night week after Easter which will be good to play under lights for my first time.
