Cheers Lame Choice

Interesting that 2 of those didn't make our association team.
Good luck to the boys representing the Plains on the weekend. Hope the weather isn't too bad for them.

I think part of the association selection was a joke.

Seccafien, Hardiman and Leighton also invited to zone, word is they're resting up injuries.
I think Andy Michael invited players who want to play and would give 100% for the team.

Im not saying its a bad thing, just that you would expect zone players to be picked play association. Especially if they put their hands up to play assoc.
Similar logic that you wouldn't pick a B Grader to play association footy.

Interesting, what part? Swamp may have a response to this.

If blokes missed association through injury then fair enough, they have the right to be selected, but if they just weren't selected for association but are for Zone two things:

1- blokes are being picked on either name/reputation or because they know someone (e.g. Mates with a coach/selector/representative) not on form

2- why play association footy if that form doesn't count to be recognised in zone & state Country selection

In regards to 1) Parish's selection. Great player. Clearly sore. Wanted the week off but was picked anyway. Hadn't played many games up to that point, so it couldn't have been form based. Didn't train. Ended up re-injuring himself as well. Niklaus - Didn't want to play. Simple as that. Why pick him? Justin Cicolella got picked and as a selector said he was too injured to play. He ended up being surplus to requirements but he still got picked. Dale King, having a great year, didn't make the squad. Caleb Howell didn't make the squad. Khan Leighton best U21 at Landmark Cup last year but couldn't get a gig. Lee Allmond MVP 2012 didn't make the squad.

2) The Landmark Cup form does count. It isn't everything but it certainly plays a part.

Completely agree.
I wasn't there but I heard the effort from some players at this years association was far from acceptable, because they were injured or disinterested. There for the association selection can rightfully be called a joke in part.

I would prefer not to comment too much on this one, but I will say the selection of the APFL team is made based on the opinions of some folk, and the selection of the zone team is made based on the opinions of other folk. In both cases, coaches and selectors pick a team, that in their eyes, is the best team available. That being the case, there will always be some that miss out that I have no doubt would be good players at the level. Bottom line is, Andy Michael has coached the APFL side for 3-4 years and knows exactly the type of players he want in his zone team that he cn rely on to a job. This season, we had a fresh coach of the APFL who brought new ideas and has a different view of some players. Like it or loath it there will always be discrepancies.

Rightly or wrongly, the APFL selectors really didnt want to see anyone rubbed out for not being available for selection this year. Under the current arrangements, we need to pick our best team, and its up to the player to decide whether or not he plays. That situation is out of the hands of the selectors. They clearly took a punt on Nicklaus that backfired in the final, after he kicked 4 in the first game. It was an unknown how he would perform, but to have guy that has averaged >95 goals a year over the past 3-4 years would be great, and so in my eyes was worth the punt and wasn't unreasonable. Live and learn... and move on. Its water under the bridge, I understand some may be disappointed at missing out but best not waste anytime worrying about it lads.
