I know where you're coming from here, but the umpires know who has changed sides and generally discuss this during breaks. If a player is BOG in the first half for team X and plays well enough next half for Team Y, then he'll get all three votes. It's pretty obvious who deserves votes and I see instances where the 3 votes have gone to players representing two teams on the day.

I'd more question how in some of the games players have got 3 votes without getting in any of the best players for their home team?? I'd be looking at that first. The umpires aren't swayed by their own 'little johnnies' running around.

Congrats to the young pecker who also polled his first A Grade vote in his first appearance.

I would never read to much into the best players in the paper. They always a fair way off and probably more of a encouragement kind of thing.
I would of thought heberle would of polled a few more votes. Thought he had a pretty good year. Cicca as well, he may off gave the umps a bit to much lip over theyear that may of cost him a few

Interesting game.
Mallala looked to have blown Hamley away in the second quarter but Hamley pegged them back in the third quarter and made a real game of it.
Mallala weathered the storm in the last quarter and pulled away for a comfortable win.
Hamley coach negative from the start sending Thach to tag #3 (Montgomery?)
Hamley looked better when Thach was moved off #3 as he provided them with run and carry.
Taylor and Greenwood are wrecking bulls and were hard at it all day. Haseldine was very good down back as was #17
Mallala best was King, #19, #3 and the ruck man #18?
Where is this weeks game?

Preliminary Final at Virginia FC, bring $20 for the ribs and a beer (expensive but worth it).

Two Wells v Hamley Bridge. Should be a cracking game with Two Wells having a few injuries of late, particularly Feast, and HB with everything to lose with a financially injected rise to fame this year. They have big expectations after taking a few decent scalps this year. TW broke the hoodoo last year and now know what it takes and will be quietly confident this week.

There are a few thinking HB might struggle with passion to win (given the hired component, ala VFC over the past few years). We'll have to wait and see.

My tip - TW by 10 points

P.S. #24 for HB - I have nothing but respect for your career, but seriously..

My latest mail on Feast is that he break his finger and will not play this week after having surgery. Two Wells have been cursed of late with key players suffering finger and wrist injuries. Not sure why people are writing of Hamley.

Should be a top day Saturday with a fair crowd. 5 of the 7 seven clubs will be participating.

An electronic scoreboard in country footy   Surely there are more appropriate things to spend money on at the grass roots level of country footy. I wonder how the ladies in the canteen feel about wasting the thousands of $$$ they work there arse off to bring in being spent on fibre optic cable to service a scoreboard of all things

There is also that point of view. I believe it was heavily backed by a club sponsor, although the exact cost of it won't be made public.

Apparently it goes alright though

Each to their own. I guess it depends on the priorities of the club.

The scoreboard will still be there next year and the year after that and the one after that etc.
Could've been an even bigger waste of some $$ and spend it on a player or 2 who won't be there next year or the year after or the one after that etc.
Instead the club has chosen and will continue to choose to invest in infrastructure around the club to keep the facilities as best we can.

I guess it depends on the priorities of the club.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

C'mon SD, I thought you were smarter than that!!
Maybe they do have other items that are high priority, but need a way to help pay for them???

To keep clubs sustainable you need to increase your revenue.
& I have it on good authority that the scoreboard will be an extra income stream for the footy club.
(sponsors paying to have a presence on the big screen.)

So in simple terms, the "ladies in the canteen" won't be under so much pressure,
as now there is something else generating some $$ for the club.

As I said each to there own. I know what I'd prefer.

You can have have your flash scoreboard. Will sponsors still purchase signs around the ground that remained there all year, as opposed to match day only?

It just seems a bit excessive thats all. Given it will be used maybe 8-9 times per year.

Catch 22 here I reckon...

Sponsor happy to pay for a new scoreboard... That supposedly will become continuing revenue stream.
If theres no scoreboard, sponsor wont part ways with his cash PERIOD.

So you can look at it like this, yes clubs could potentially spend money in other areas depending on direction of the club a future sustainability, but without some projects (like it sounds with this one), you wouldn't get the extra cash anyway to follow that plan.

Its an argument had about multiple things with clubs for many years in country footy all over the country.

Lights around your oval is another. Most clubs aren't blessed with the lighting set-up at Mallala, so the argument is can be made for the following:

- Install lights acceptable for match play
- host night matches during the season, no doubt other clubs would attend the fixture generating increased turnover, going along with more alcohol consumed at night events (other than finals)
- Have a facility that can attract other events (NAB Cup country challenge games etc)
- With outstanding facilites improves your chances of recruiting better footballers

Now all of this comes down to $$$$ (especially the lights argument, grants etc are required usually to get that off the ground), but the remaining questions becomes this...

If a Sponsor says heres my $$$ but only if you do XYZ (which will also generate income) or your not getting it, its probably the smart option to take the scoreboard, its better than nothing... and the club might already recognise the fact it could spend $$$ better elsewhere, but you cant spend what you dont have...

Just for thoughts...
