The saints are all the talk at the moment as SWAT said lets hope its a consistant season for them in 08.
I heard that most locals at Goolwa have stepped it up a fair bit compared to the past, i guess they have had to with the recruits they have all locals will have to be fit and commited to earn their spot.

On another note i was have a good chat to Sammy Braidwood and David Eats on sat night, Compass will really miss these two local 1 point players with these guys packing up and moving to Brisbane in the coming weeks and if word is true that Burdett is looking at playing league Mt Compass could be looking at a very long season.

Is anyone game enough to predict what the ladder will look like come September?

The creeks will not fall away that much i dont reckon. I still tip them to play in the GF as they will replace what they have lost due to there now no longer being a "Salary Cap" which wont restrict the offers they (or for that matter any side) throw at players to get them there.

Exciting season ahead!!!

I love every sides optimism at the start of the season. Fresh faces, renewed enthusiasm its always a good feeling!

This decade the Creek are the only team to challenge Willunga and thank goodness for the copmpetition they have or it would be way too boring. How much do you reckon the Willunga boys are on? They don't have players like Portlock, Baxter, Dobson, Steele, Hams, Genovese, Carnevale, Haskett, Thomas and recruit Ryan for nothing. It all adds up and even if it is only $200 each it would surpass what most clubs pay out. What Willunga do is raise the bar and it is great for the competition and they are the first ones to put their hands up for association football.

You reckon only $200 TC. Dont forget Glass, Macca and Fullback of the century Radbone. Portlock wouldnt get out of bed for that
BJ, AFL Scott freeborn. Ryan Lewis has gone to play in canberra for a rumured $30k

WoW i heard Lewis was heading to either Eastlake or Queanbeyan, im assuming hes lobbed into Queanbeyan and the money would have had to have been over $20k easily.

Played alright at Yank but in a struggling side there was only so much he could do.

There must have been a very hefty incentive for Portlock to quit league football and play Great Southern. The normal footballer would not walk away from league footy unless a fair carrot was waved under his nose.

No that will be right, a couple of other players from GSFL were offered similar packages, but turned them down. Lewis a very good player, gutsy and gave Yank some bite. Played with a busted collarbone for the last few games.

Lewis in a better side would have been damaging but his kicks resulted in turnovers due to not having the cattle around him.

Wish him the best of luck over there! Should play a vital role at whichever club he plays for.

Not sure exactly who Trethaway is Damian, but I am tipping that he is the big fella who has moved to goolwa and wants to have a kick. I guess I am not qualified on the Lewis situation beacuse he only played us once last year and failed to touch it, but he must be able to play a bit. What other GSFL players would have got offered that sought of coin?

What would a player of Portlock's calibre be worth on the open market?
