Tips for this weekend;
Echunga V Hahndorf- The Magpies are on the slide losing 3 straight and really need this win to keep up with the top 3. The demons on the other hand appear to be hitting top form later in the season and want to cement a top 3 spot. A crucial part of this game will be in the ruck with the Roberts Boys against Cranna, Whoever gets on top their will be hugely influential in giving their side first use in the midfield. Also will Dan Roberts play his first game of the year which would make the Dorf a lot stronger. Jennings, Guy and Edwards against Tripodi, Paul and Hankin should be a cracker in the midfield, Whilst Purling on Harland should be a fascinating battle also. Hourigan on Liston down the other end should also be an interesting contest and whoever gets on top in the midfield will help influence those battles. Not sure why but I'm going to tip the maggies as my gut tells me to, with Wittwer putting on a show kicking 4. Hahndorf by 1 goal.
Torrens V Blackwood- Having seen both teams recently this should be a cracking contest. The Woodies really need this win to keep up with lobe in the battle for 5th. TV are one heck of a side and have class all over the ground, to be perfectly honest they should be the best team with the side they have. As to how you stop Boras and both Ellis boys nobody has figured that out yet and I think only the wet weather can. Seriously is there are a bigger forward line in the SANFL let alone the HFL? O'sullivan had about 40 and 4 to half time last week before saying he'd had a enough and let Hanna, Hill and Giadresco dominate the rest of the game. There one issue is their defense and lack of running defensively so if blackwood can pressure really well and cause turnovers they are a good chance. Thompson and Bricknell have big Jobs down back but they need Herbert to dominate the ruck and let Edwards, Catford and Ridley dominate to get the ball to their forwards. Blackwood to fight hard but TV to win by 4 goals.
Barker V Lofty- Barker are in some fine form winning 3 on the trot to move to 7th whilst lofty were might competitive for 3 quarters last week. Lofty will need a 4 quarter effort as the last two weeks they have had 1 bad quarter each game which has hurt them. Block has returned back to his best for Barker which has helped and Hughes is dominating as usual but some of the younger kids like Pope, Bell and Marston are playing better football which is helping with depth. Nielsen was a nice inclusion last week for lofty but I think Bruce Dawes would be ecstatic at his younger guys improvement and will just be preaching for pressure all day long. The mud heap at Barker will make this a slog but I reckon Lofty will snap Barkers winning streak and get up 2 goals.
Lobethal V Ironbank- Lobe had an important win last week and need to do the same this week. For the bankers it's been a horrid 3 weeks just gone, that got worse last weekend with some Injuries to Schneider, Bottin, O'Sullivan and De Visser which will rule most of them out for the year. Fisher is in good goal kicking form for the Tigers and if Baust, Bampton and The Jenkin Boys get on top in the middle he will get plenty of opportunities to kick a bag. Ironbank haven't been playing team footy of late and will need to get back to that if they want to have a repeat of round 5 where they upset Lobe without Motlop and De Visser. Thomas has been their best player all year and dominated from half back last year, Hitchcock is devastating when given the ball on the outside and Desengo is doing a fine job at full back but the midfield need to lift their work rate against one of the best in the comp. Lobethal to win by 4 goals but Ironbank to be very competitive.
Uraidla V Onkas- Uraidla had a big win last week as they always do when they need it, whilst the Doggies were highly competitive again but fell just short. Delvins is still out for Uris and they appear to not be at full strength where as the Dogs are finally almost at full strength after a horrid run with Injuries. One big problem for the Dogs will be stopping Down in the ruck as they have no recognized ruckman and it's going to take a big effort from Klun, Tanner and Woolford to control the Uri's midfield with Down on top. All uraidla games are a tight slog at the moment with uraidla unable to kick big scores but they are a fantastic defensive outfit that will expect to nullify Grocke and Leonard, which is really going to stop Onkas main avenues to goal. I expect a tight affair but the extra class of Ivens and the Ebert Boys to lift Uraidla to a 3 goal win.
