Money may play a part, but for the more senior guys in good club sides I believe it’s more about giving the body a rest before the run home. By now most would be carrying a niggle or 3 and the week off (getting away even) is more appealing to them than the interleague game. Esp if they’ve done it before or played at a higher level previously.
I was honoured to be recognised and play (it was a weekend carnival way back then lol)…. But the following year I pulled out with a niggle….i would have played for my club though. Not losing my position in a quality side was more important to me second time round.

Our HFL side would have been smacked by Nairne’s premiership side… HFL Facebook put up a post of a heap of our successful sides photos and there were some bloody good sides through the 2000’s and even through the 2010’s. Now players don’t seem to care and just roll up for the country champs. I think some of these players get paid too much so they don’t want to risk getting injured playing for their rep side for nothing. It sucks because us as spectators (and past representative players) love watching the higher standard of these interleague games.

Correct. VH should have 6 at least the way they are tearing the comp apart. 0 from EB?

Ladder position & players selected
Victor Harbor 2
McLaren 6
Langhorne Ck 2
Encounter Bay 0
Myponga-Sellicks 2
Strathalbyn 3
Mt. Compass 1
Yankalilla 4
Willunga 2
Goolwa/PE 1

I don’t agree. Yes VH (or LC or MY or McL) would beat that side but There are 10 sides. Each should have 2-3. It is that representative side from all clubs. Every side in the league has quality players, even GPE. Carnelly is a star.
Given I follow GSFL very closely, the fact I had to look up some of the names to see who they are and who they play for says more.
They were never going to be able to kick a winning score…..Where were the forwards…..

Rd 9 guesses

E Bay host the Mudlarks. Bays have shown against Victor and McLaren they're not up to top 3 standard and i'd expect Myp/Sellicks to prove this Saturday with a comfortable 28 point win over the Bays.

Willunga broke the ice last round by surprisingly obliterating Mt Compass. On that form they'll have little more than a training run against the hapless GPE team to the tune of 116 points

L Creek have surprised most by sitting in 3rd spot with only the 2 losses. If they're to have any hope of finishing Top 3 at seasons end they'll need to upset McLaren here. Despite the home ground advantage i'd expect McLaren to run out winners by 35 points

Compass host Strath. both have been disappointing this season. Will be interesting to see Compass's response after their inglorious effort last round. Strath need to win to have any chance of challenging for a finals spot in the 2nd half of the season. Tipping Compass to bounce back in a low scoring affair to the tune of 10 points

Yank have shown some good improvement this season but are in for a tough day out even tho it's home as Victor's rampaging season will continue on by 106 points.

Agree with most of that JJ.
Not sure what condition the ovals are in but I think yank v vh might be a bit closer with vh missing some quality.
Strath v compass….who knows. I think Strath are the better side but it’s at compass so…?

Well I think that’s 3/5 for you JJ. Do I get an extra half for sitting on the fence with comp/strath?

Is it bays continuing to surprise…. Or is it Pongy?

VH by 126. You were right JJ. Turns out the Yank oval was in perfect nick and VH covered the loss of their 2 best players from the week before easily.

Yep, my pathetic tipping form continues

Bays and Myp/Sellicks are real head scratchers atm :?

One thing for certain is that Victor and McLaren are clearly the best 2 teams atm.

Creeks got blown away in the 1st quarter for the 4th time in succession which is certainly a worry that needs to be addressed.
Creeks did well to match McLaren for the rest of the match and limit any damage to their % which may be vital come the end of the season.

Most would say the Top 5 is set with Strath the only realistic chance of pushing for a spot in the 2nd half of the season currently being 1 1/2 wins outside the 5. Creeks are probably the more vulnerable team if there is one but with their % they'll probably only need to win 3 more games to sew a spot up which looks very likely. Been a long time since the 5 has potentially been set so early in the season.

Ran out of time Sat morning but mine would have been similar JJ.

Willunga, compass and Strath look to be finding some form which is great.
Surprised Pongy got over McLaren after watching the replay of them v bays where they were pretty ordinary.
Strath were very competitive against VH and had they kicked better or VH worse in the first 3/4s who knows what could have happened. Probably VHs least impressive performance for the year but still ended up with a 6 goal win. Strath’s quality players are still exactly that.

Round 12 sees some interesting clashes

Strath v Creeks should be a beauty. Little separated them in the Anzac day clash with the Creeks scraping. Huge game this one as if the Creeks win it will probably all but ensure them of finals footy even this far out whilst condemning Strath to life support for a finals bid. Creeks form has been very consistent this season compared to Straths which suggest Creeks are the tip but with Clifford going back to the Crows could be the difference.
Tip - Whichever gets the better run with the umpires will win

Yank host Myp/Sell and will be looking for a much better showing than last time they played them. The Mudlarks after a few surprise losses bounce back last week over McLaren and will be looking to string some wins together to stay in contention for a top 3 spot. Yank will be more competitive this time but not enough to change the result.
Tip - Muddies by 58

Rivals McLaren and Willunga go at it at McLaren. McLaren won by 6 goals last time and will be looking for a similar result this time to cement a top 3 spot. Willunga got off to a horror start losing their 1st 7 matches but have been good the last month and whilst wont make the finals can still shape the configuration of it.
Tip - McLaren by 32

Compass v GPE. Compass have been a disappointment this season and are playing out the season for pride now as are GPE. The expected wet conditions should limit the winning margin here which will be a bit of relief for GPE
Tip - Compass by 97

Bays take on Victor in a rare Sunday clash at E Bay.
Victor are sailing along nicely undefeated whilst E Bay have surprised a few to sit in 2nd. Victor demolished the Bays last time by 12 goals so Bays will be looking to show that they are a serious threat by taking it right up to Victor here. Hard to see the Bays turning the tables but it should be a lot closer
Tip - Victor by 28

Good preview JJ, can’t argue with any of that.
I was pretty impressed with Strath last week, should be a good contest that one.
The talk seems to be that Bays will beat Victor. [emoji2369]. Sure heaslip and overall are missing but their side still looks strong.

Wet weather footy!

Pretty much expected results from Rd 11.

Myp/Sell by 95 pts over Yank. Yank would've been disappointed by that margin

McLaren put away Willunga in the 3rd quarter for a 26 point win. 1 goal less than tipped

Compass had a regulation 87 point win over GPE

Strath and Creek slogged it out for 3 quarters in heavy conditions with accurate kicking keeping Strath in the game
3/4 time Strath 7 - 3 to Creek 6 - 14. Strath actually hit the front in the last quarter before the Creeks went on a rampage for a 9 goal quarter to win by 52

Victor reaffirmed they're a cut above the rest by handing out a 11 goal mauling of the Bays to match their round 3 effort against them.

The wash up is that the Final 5 is SET IN STONE despite 7 rounds to go
Victor WILL finish Minor Premiers whilst the other 4 will fight out the Double Chance

9 yank to defeat 10 GPE
8 will to defeat 7 strath
5 pongy to defeat 6 compass
3 creek to defeat 4 bays
1 VH v McLaren…..if McLaren can’t beat the undermanned VH today on their home deck it’s hard to see them doing so this year. Should be a great contest still. VH just.

Rd 12 guesses

Yank by 81 over GPE
Willunga by 28 over Strath
Myp/Sell by 47 over Compass
Creek by 11 over E Bay - Critical match for both teams top 3 chances, whoever loses will finish 4th or 5th imo
McLaren by 16 over Victor - A win to McLaren i'd say would almost ensure a top 3 spot whilst a loss for Victor would only see them denied a chance of an undefeated season which i wouldn't think they'd care about ahead of a flag.

I am heading to Adelaide in a couple of weeks and was wondering if they are producing the weekly Budgets again this year.
I know they were doing them last year.

Round 13 guesses

On paper it appears to be 5 clear cut results with the top 5 teams playing the bottom 5 and it may turn out that way but wouldn't be surprised of an upset or 2 ?

Compass host Bays. Bays need to keep winning to hold the double chance and with that incentive i feel will get over the Dogs who are always a tricky proposition on their home patch.
Bays by 14 points

Yank host Creeks. Yank pushed the Creeks most the way earlier in the season before running out of steam late. Creeks have done very well to set themselves up to play finals and could probably lose their last 6 and still make it. They have been hit hard today by injuries and unavailability's (No Cole, Ubengang, Domonish, Clifford, Paech ) and if Yank have close to their full squad available i wouldn't be surprised of an upset here
Yank by 15 points

Victor host GPE and lets pray it';s not a 50 goal flogging like last time but it will still be a thrashing unfortunately
Roos by 157 points

Strath host McLaren . Strath have had a terrible season with little consistency. Occasionally showing glimpses of what it takes but too often go missing. McLaren are starting to get serious and wind up counting down to finals and eying off a 3rd successive flag
McLaren by 51 points

Willunga host the Mudlarks. Willunga have had a rare shocker of a season but have still been competitive in a lot of their matches. The Mudlarks havent been the most consistent team either but with the lure of a double chance they shouldn't be dropping this one tho stranger things have happened.

MC by 9 over EB
LC by 31 over YA
VH by 101 over GPE
Mcl by 74 over ST
MY by 8 over WI

While MC are not usually easy on their home deck, this still surprised me as they have been pretty ordinary this year.

Creek still too good for Yank even with those outs

The first quarter at VH pointed to another demolition, but GPE regrouped and played some good footy. Great to see them improving.

The McL juggernaut looks to be back on track on path to another GF with another strong performance over ST

WI tested Pongy and look like being the side that will help shape the 5 even though they can’t make it. I see they have advertised for a new coach.

Rd 14 guesses

Victor over Compass by 63 points

E Bay over GPE by 98 points

Myp/Sel over Strath by 49 points

McLaren over Yank by 86 points

Cannot possibly see the Creeks beating Willunga with the outs they have (All of last weeks plus Kellock as well who's likely to be missing for a while) and wont be at all surprised if the Creeks dont win another game for the season with the draw they have. Having said that they'll still play finals
Big day for the Towk family at the Creek with Elliot being promoted from Senior Colts to join his brothers Adam and Josh in the A Grade to see all 3 of them play together in A Grade which is a fine achievement.
