Seen something yesterday at our local BLG game during the Gawler Centrals v Kapunda U/17s that didn't look to good to a few spectators. A player was taken off the ground for apparently NOT making a lead from the forward line which is fair enough BUT the worrying part was witnessing the teams RUNNER barrating the player and forcefully poking the lad hard in the side of his head.

My question is should a runner ever have the right to lay a finger on any player let alone a 16yo kid?

Was great to see the lad go back on the ground and kick 3 quick goals before once again being dragged for not centering the ball when having a shot for goal from the pocket.

Dont get me wrong IF a player hasnt followed team rules its fair enough to drag him and for the COACH to have a word with him but i dont think a runner or anyone for that matter should be laying a finger on any player.

Absolutely not !!! Runner should be sacked immediately if what you have said is true.
If you don’t like my words, don’t listen. If you don’t like my appearance, don’t look. If you don’t like my actions, turn your head; It’s as simple as that.

It is definitely true. We witnessed the incident from about 20-30 metres away and after speaking to the player and his parents he has gone through a hell of a lot over the last 5-6 months and was training with Centrals U/16s before becoming a very sick boy and is still fighting a very bad illness that the coach knows about. Incidents like these make it an easy choice for a young lad to walk away from the sport altogether.

If you read the original post it explains what happened and what was witnessed by several parents. It was also witnessed by parents and players from the U/13s & U/15s teams.

Look i agree drag a player and fully explain what he may or may not have done right on the field. BUT i cant condone a RUNNER or anyone touching a Junior player in that way. Surely pushing your finger into the side of a players head is not the way to get your point across.

If there wasnt anything wrong then it wouldnt have been such a discussion point at the ground. It took away from the sides big win.

Sitting down after the game with him and his family he was angry and disappointed only in the way he was poked in the head. He agreed with the message being given and the break in team rules. The coach may have been the one to take him aside and speak to him etc as he is the coach after all.

The team won by over 100 points so it wasnt like one mistake was going to cost the team a win so yes it was a tad excessive i believe.

Back in my day, if the runner poked me in side of the head, I would have taken him out the back after the game for a rumble in the jungle.
Instead, if I was a 16 year old my old man would have then taken the runner out the back and sorted it out "Damir Dokic" style.

Gee, lets all get back to the dark ages then when our knuckles dragged on the ground... Its absolute crap to think that this is OK, and because it happened years ago its still ok now. The Runner should be sacked and any person at that club who condoned his behaviour should be out the door too. In case they hadn't noticed.. BULLY'S are LOSERS!!

I think the Runner should get the sack. The only thing the runner should do is get the player off the ground ( His job). It is up to the coach to talk to the player when they are off the ground. A coach or runner should never touch a underage player anytime. They will lose respect from the other players & parents. The club should look into this.
If I see it I say it.

How much is a strengthening Lovecats team going to win by this week for Coach Hadden?
I think the signing of interstate superstar Dave Wood will be a more than adequate replacement for mediocre 2s player Todd 'Cheezel' Read. He has looked amazing on the track and should have no worries adjusting to the competition.

All aboard the B-Train!

Don't think it will such an easy walk in the park for your Lovecats this weekend mate. Redlegs have stepped up a gear in the last fortnight andshould go in as favourites especially on their home deck.

As for the B-Train, his ship (or shall I say train) derailed years ago.

Will be a good chance to see where we are at after a couple of good early wins and playing a strengthened Ango side. The lads trained well last night. Hey Basco, I heard that Harvey is back this week, is that correct? if so look forward to Greeny and him go head to head.

The old saying's;- 'Footy is played 90% between the ears'... 'No Team is unbeatable'.... and 'Never believe your own publicity'....... are all so true.... South Gawler came within 17 pts of the League 'Stand-Outs' Tanunda today in a tough, wet, messy, hard, slog and it was great to see that they can have a 'Never say die attitude' and that 'No man was bigger than the team' today.

It was great to watch a team that is clearly 'taking one week at a time' and 'blooding new Recruits' walk off the ground with their heads held high.

Yep... 'one week at a time' just like the 99 point thrashing by Gawler Central last week??
No team is unbeatable? Well South didnt win and Tanunda still are unbeaten...
Never believe your own publicity? Well South Gawler and Tanunda probably should because they both are in exactly the same position on the ladder as they were last week.
Got within 17 points of Tanunda on a wet day, something to build on for the next few years...
