and 4 of them are there for money only

I think its more like were good for having juniors playing in the A's and B's...seems its eaiser to splash the cash these days then develop juniors...

These sort of comments give me the Sh#ts for the fact that a club will get ridiculed for only winning 1 game for the year and finish bottom so they then go out and recruit and still get bagged for not developing juniors. How many Willaston juniors are down town playing underage at a league clubs which limits the amount of ready A-grade juniors to choose from. Every other club recruits and the recruiting Willaston have done for this year due to the point system is actually very smart by targeting ex players and enticing them to come back whether for money or not at least they are not happy with mediocracy and want to be a force again.
Trust me I am not a donnybrook fan but a realist that knows that all clubs do it. Angaston in 2003 would be the last club that won a flag in recent years with 80% home grown talent and then Nuri's golden years before that.

Winners for round 1 of BLGFA season

South by 1 goal Nuri will be up and about early.
Kapunda by 3 goals After watching willaston in a trial this year big wraps will be a major Disappointment first up.
Tanunda by 10 goals Heard a rumour it could be a barossa player's wedding saturday with 5-7 players not playing because of this
Gawler Centrals by 1 goal in a close game it could go the other way but ill stick with centrals at home.

He would want to play well for that type of coin. I wonder if he is getting paid on top of the fee paid to South Adelaide.

What scares me is South still aren't talking finals on this forum.....very strange indeed.
I am backing them to be big improvers on this reason alone.
Normally this time of year they are printing premiership t-shirts and then winning 3 games for the year.
Guess we will all know more in 48 hours....footys back.

This weeks winners

Lions - nuri to use vintage as an excuse
Donnybrooks - will take some time to put it all together but list has improved enough to cover the 5 goal difference on the bombers
Tigers - angaston same a nuri
Magpies - bulldogs overachievers last year and lost more then they gained this summer - will slip down the order

Agreed. Willaston played 7 first gamers last year and 10 with less that 20 games experience.

It is a challenge to get young blokes through to senior footy in the first place.

The best talent heads to centrals and what you can get through to seniors take 2 to 3 years to find their feet, if there is no quality A grade players around to show them a way to succeed then they never will even with Milligan as coach.

No talk of finals Stewie... however, the lions have added a couple of senior players with experience to help nuture the young cubs in season 2011. Should win more games than last year.

What is sad, is the retirement of Andrew Bevis, a great servant to the club and im sure most spectators of BLG footy over the past 15 years would agree when he was 'on' he was one of the best players in the league and hardest to match up on!

No talk of finals cos they are realists this year and privately know they won't make it.

This week's winners, from no expert. But I have been watching some of the misinformation passing around as facts;

Nuri - I still doubt South, but.....
Kapunda - much better than the experts think this year, and Willaston can't play all their imports due to points
Centrals - this year's threat to Tanunda
Tanunda - Barossa will take time to cover losses.

I'm sure there's at least one roughie in here for the odds. I'm not ready to jump on the Gawler bandwagon yet.

South- Nuri to finish bottom
Willaston- They can play all their new players as most of them are 0 points
Centrals- to much talent up forward for the panther defence to handle
Tanunda- Barossa will still be around the mark this year

end of season prediction

tanunda- still cant see anyone beating them
Barossa- Have the stability that no other club seems to have this year. 2 key outs but will still be thereabouts
centrals- will miss the young gun midfielders
willaston- will take time to gel, next year is their time if all new players stick around, wouldnt surprise to see them go from woodenspooners to premiers in a year

freeling- Greenwood to be sacked half way through the year, eichner to take over and a late charge to finals just falls short
south- Lawry will make a huge difference, will win the medal from CHB
Angaston- will only finish above kapunda and nuri if kingsley plays most of the season
kapunda- nothing to get excited about here
nuri- salter in for a tough initiation

Tanunda - Still the team to beat after loosing a few players, won't do it undefeated.
Freeling - Some big pick ups and good pre season
Willaston - Mick and Nobby have beefed up their points before Nobby hangs up the boots.
Central - List always goes deep and always around the mark.

Barossa - Aging list, played above par in 2010
Angaston - A club that has the budget, but points won't allow them to recruit. Need Kingo each week to play finals.
Kapunda - Better list than 2010.
South - Pinning their hopes on a full back.
Nuriootpa - Salter will find life a little harder in the first grade.

I saw the bulldogs play at Tanunda on the weekend.... Aging List you say ?
On the contrary, they are definitely NOT an aging list - with at least 6 or 7 teenagers in their side who all look very comfortable at this level. They played some very good football and almost rolled the reigning premiers on their own deck.
If that's an aging list, Tanunda's team were released from their nursing homes just in time to play!!......
I say no to drugs, but they don’t listen.

Have to agree with you Chuck, Barossa where very good and all who attended saw a fantastic game. Barossa will most certainly be around the mark from what I saw yesterday. Tanunda certainly are the not the force they where in previous years. It looks as though Agars and "Groggy" Prior are doing reasonably well at the league level and probably will not return.

Big loss for Tanunda though with Westhoff breaking his collar bone in the first qt. At this stage they think he will miss about 5-6 weeks but I would think a little more. Tanunda have the next 2 weeks off so he will probably be out for 4 games.
