Automatic clearance on the 3rd attempt I believe or has the SAAFL got different rules to the country.

Here's my ladder prediction as at the end of February. Little tough to make a call on a few clubs due to not knowing all the ins and outs but have gone on what I have been hearing...

Two Wells - Lost a couple players but certainly recruited better than what they lost. May depend on who plays at the eagles throughout the year but I believe it is the year of the Rooster
United - If the rumour has it that P. Burgoyne has joined the oasis under the tower then I am sure he would not go alone and in that case these guys should be around the mark. Had a competative unit last year that will step up in 2010
Hamley - Again on hear say lost quite of few players from the a grade list but are spending up big this year to make a finals appearance. Egg on a few faces if they don't finish in the top 3.
Mallala - I actual believe these guys will win enough games throughout the year to finish minor premiers but the loss of a few quality players will effect them come the major round and will get bundled out in straight sets.
Virginia - Surprise Surprise, most of there imports are gone after 1 or 2 years. Certainly not a club that attract long term loyalty from imports. Will win enough games to place 5th but can't see them pushing the 4 other clubs unless they have a few players up their sleeves.
Balaklava - Competative without being great last year but what I have heard is that have picked up a couple of handy footballers plus Lamond back to the club at the helm. Will be a dangerous game for most clubs and the peckers will win enough to keep themselves of the bottom.
Hummocks - The glory days are over. Quite a few outs and not alot of ins this year so far and I think this will be the demise of the mighty eagle glory era. Great side, great club but every club has to hit rock bottom to go back up and think that it is hummocks turn. Also think that the Peckers have the wood over Hummocks in minor round games so that is why I think the eagles to finish bottom over Balak.

My view and will be disageed by plenty but lets see the banter.

for what reason can a club not clear a player?
in saafl a club can not hold a clearence back on a player even if he hasnt paid for the 09 season. used to be able to but that was changed, from memory, a couple of years ago.
could be different in other leagues but would like to know if it is......anyone?

My understanding is this (don't know how accurate)

A player clearance can be refused for 2 reasons only
1- under contract - has to be a SANFL approved contract - thats the poorly written contract with spelling errors that looks like it was written by a 10 year old and has the SANFL logo on it
2- player owes Subs from previous season - can't be money for anything else

No such thing as required player anymore

However - intraleague in APFL is different - no obligation to clear anyone.

Heard a bit of rumour that playing senior footy at Mallala is "too much hard work and committment" for a young chap these days . Hence his request for a clearance to a club that have guaranteed a spot in their A grade. I guess this approach works for some clubs and not for others, it does explain a few things though

No spots guaranteed out that way swamp. Doesn't mind a spew in fitness work though.

No one is guaranteed a spot in any club. Some things come into play, fitness, form and injury etc.
It has been unfortunate for the young man that these have weighed down selectors in recent years.
He will be spew'n even more, knowing his clearance was knocked back.

Longies expected a knock back from their main foe. It's not going to be hard to fill out another one. Let's hope the the boy stands firm...
