Straying from the Willaston coaching talk for a few seconds, is there a realistic chance of this happening next year...?

Does anyone know this Fudgy (?) bloke that apparently does a lot of work down at Centrals, is he earmarked to take over from Herzick?

Or would he be open to one of the other jobs if there are 4 available?

Personnaly I would not take that route, Kapunda to Greenock then the dirt roads through to Lyndoch and then onto Birdwood, much faster. Can't see it happening however, Birdwood will probably go up a division, sounds as though they are just checking out their options.

Is it me or has the coverage of the BLG in the local papers dropped off considerably this year? There's more colour pictures and statistics, but the reports now seem to follow a general format common to all papers - and that's because it's obvious they're written by someone not at the game. How can this be reporting?
Some examples - I was at the willaston/Kapunda game. In the Leader Mike Teakle said, Toby Johnson rucked all day against Jimmy Jones. Anyone there knows that for large periods in the second half he played in the forward lines and Adam Turrell was in the ruck at least half of the game. I'm sure Mike wouldn't have written this if he'd been there, so his sources must be unreliable?
In the Bunyip Jimmy Jones was "best on ground", yet until the last quarter he did little around the ground, and was generally beaten by the Bomber ruckmen who blocked his run and jumped early so he couldn't use his height; the stats showed this. Was the writer there?
Reports now just parrot best players and goal kickers from the game sheets with general comments, no other names are mentioned.
Unless the odd writer was at the game, and thats usually only in Gawler or the Barossa. It's time to get out to the games, write reports that are relevant, accurate and interesting; not rely on the staff writers imagination.
Any comments? Am I wrong?

Hotspur, I don't know who you are, but I'll bite on this one. At The Bunyip we've worked extremely hard to provide a different football coverage this year. We have increased our number of football writers and endeavour to cover all games - rather than just writing them up afterwards. We appreciate that the football coverage in our paper is a very important facet of what we do - it ranks towards the top of our list.
The weekend just gone saw Jason Akermanis play in our league. The game was big enough that we decided to cover it with two writers on the day, meaning we were unable to get someone to the Willaston/Kapunda game (unfortunately, that means we relied on our contacts when writing this up). That is a rarity and would be one of a handful of games we haven't attended this season.
I'm glad you've noticed the statistics and graphs that we've been running as they've provided an interesting and informative look at how the season is progressing, adding to what we do as a newspaper.
As for 'parroting best players and goalkickers', please bear in mind that because we've had a change of staff and increased our number of writers, several of them are first time correspondents. We are working with them over the season to help improve their writing. That takes time. I, for one, hate goal for goal football reports and we are working hard to move our writers away from this sort of report.
I believe the football coverage in The Bunyip this year is a step up on previous years (there are no more or less photos in the past) and have a passion for further improvement – I love the game and take pride in being involved in covering it.
Thanks for the feedback, if you have any further issues, please email me at editor@bunyippress.com.au – if you'd like to write footy for us next season, we can have a chat ;)

I knew I'd get your attention Dogwatcher, and thanks for the heads up on the situation at your paper - and the offer of a job! I can see your problems, but I still stand by my impressions though.
For the last couple of years the Bunyip reviews were the best - by people at games and not relying on published figues. That hasn't been the case this year. As you say there may be reasons for it but it has decreased the enjoyment of reading them for me and many people I speak to.
Your paper wasn't the only one I mentioned - thank you to the secret editor of my first effort - but they all seem to be relying on the same shorthand format. When you see one name as a byline for all - or more than one - game, that can only mean one thing; unrelable reporting in most cases. They need to get out of Gawler and Angaston to do their work.
Sorry to the Leader for the Media Mike gaffe!

Would it be worth while having a nominated person from each club?
The paper educate them before the season on how to write a good article
Only have to do an article for your clubs home games (so only 8 for the season)

Didn't they broadcast the finals games on local radio up there last year?
Why don't they get a major sponsor and do match of the round?
Get scores from the other games during the day.

From what I can ascertain, looking through previous editions, The Bunyip did not have people at all games last year. There were only two football writers paid by The Bunyip last season. We now have four every week - three very rarely.
However, I won't dispute you are enjoying the write-ups less - that's your call. In whatever we do, we can always improve and I'm always happy to look at ways of doing so.

Bunyip coverage best of the 3 local rags by far IMO.Thought it may struggle losing Robert Laidlaw but has maintained high standard and is a good read each week

This weeks winners

Tan V Ango-Ango could start now and still not win-Magnificent Maggies by 20 goals
Bar V Centrals-back to earth with a thud this week for the Tigers barossa to belt them and remind them why they are 2nd to bottom-Bar by 10 goals plus depending on condition of oval
Free v Kap-shocking games this week-end with another easy win to Kapunda by 12 goals
Will v Nuri-What Donnies team will turn up this week.me thinks the Donnies mentally stuffed after blowing chance to play finals and Nuri out to prove something and win by 8 goals.

Teeth knocked out is the rumour.
No, lost all interest in the competition, points system has ruined it, standard is not what it used to be
