I think depending on South Clare’s improvement, North looks to have gotten a good draw. But you never know with the derby and south has picked up a few handy players.

I think BSR might have the toughest although again depends what RSMU is like, I’d say Southern Saints the toughest draw if Riverton have a fall off from last season.

South will finish bottom and not win a game

Huge call I think they win 4-6

Yeah agree. Bought in far too much talent to not win a game. Reckon they will have BBH covered, will knock off Blyth at least once and no doubt cause a couple of upsets along the way.

Probably most interested in RSMU first game just to see where they are at?!

BSR v Saints is a good game for the start of the year as well, game of the round by far.

Yeah round 1 will be a good match up on what will be an emotional day for the club being the Mumford Memorial Game.

Round 1 should be a good round. Grand final rematch, night game Anzac Day and rivalry of min man RSMU.

Any news on how trial matches have been going and what teams are looking like in them?

I know not a very good indication of how they will go during the year. North played Walkerville in a 6 quarter a and b trial match and had a lot of players unavailable and not sure how it went

Walkerville won by a couple of goals at the end of the 6.

BSR haven't played a trial yet but will have a couple before the season starts.

Saints to improve.
North Clare to improve.
South to improve
Blyth to improve
Min Man to fall back a tad
BBH to drop down
RSMU who knows

Yeah I think saints and North improve on last year, let’s be honest Blyth and south couldn’t get any worse so they’ll get better.

BBH, RSMU and Min Man to drop a bit.

BSR clearly still the team to beat and will be all season whether they lose a few games or not, 6 from 7 flags will get you favourite status for the year whether you’re top or not I think.

Agree with all of that.

BSR will be an interesting watch. Still plenty of quality which should see them pushing the top couple of spots but wouldn’t think we would see an undefeated season again.

Who have you got for round one?

A grade:
North v BBH - I think BBH has lost to many guns for them to win this one. North Clare by 10 goals
BSR v Saints - probably game of the round and I would Go BSR by 3 goals.
Min man v Riverton - not too sure on this one I think Riverton sneaks over the line by a goal
South v Blyth - south to win this one by 5 goals

Might change my b grade tip for Blyth vs south Clare

Decent side Blyth have put on the park, reckon they might get up in a close one

Round 1 done and dusted

A Grade

North Clare beat Burra, should definitely play finals this year

Min man easily over Riverton was one of the surprises.

No surprise South defeated Blyth

BSR easily over the saints was a surprise.

B Grade

South look the team to beat with a close win over a strong Blyth

Interesting to see Riverton beat Min Man, will be keen to see where these teams finish but feel they may be at the bottom end of the table

North Clare have improved in the B grade but Burra have gone backwards like their A Grade.

Didn’t know a heap of names in the Saints but they were real decent with a great mixture of stronger older blokes and younger kids. Happy for BSR to get the win in a close one.

Round two will be interesting to see where a few teams are at!
A Grade
I think the saints get over min man by 3-4 goals.
Rsmu for me over Blyth by 6 goals.
Bbh v South - I think this could be a close game with South taking the win.
BSR v North - Depends if north shows up or not. But Have to give the edge to the reigning premiers.

B grade
Saints win this one against min man easily
Blyth to beat Rsmu
South over burra
Bsr to beat north in this one.

A Grade
Saints vs Min Man interesting game, Saints were disappointing in round 1 whilst Min Man had a comfortable win against a side expected to fall down the ladder. This game will be a real guide to where everyone is at. Whether Dustin Launer plays or not might decide this one.

RSMU vs Blyth- both teams lost in round 1, would expect RSMU to win this one fairly easily. 4-5 goals

BBH vs South- must win early for both teams, would expect South to win by 4-6 goals.

North Clare vs BSR- match of the round. Should be a close one, biased tip BSR by 2 goals

B Grade

Saints vs Min Man- i thought the Saints were impressive in round 1, Min Man lost to Riverton. That would suggest Saints should win this one.

RSMU vs Blyth- big game early in the season for both teams. RSMU up and about with a win after winning the spoon last year. Blyth had a strong side on the park last week against one of the best teams in the comp. I would expect Blyth by 5-6 goals.

BBH vs South Clare- this will show where BBH are at. Normally strong at home but coming up against flag favourites in South Clare. Will go South Clare by 5-6 goals.

North Clare vs BSR- another tight match. BSR by a point.

North v BSR - North have a couple coming in but lose a couple as well so will see what happens with that. According to the plains producer looks like BSR will basically be unchanged.

North with a couple of fly in / fly out types isn't it??

Will the extra 2 days break North have make a difference at this level of footy??

Yeah, the usual b grade ruckman but with both other rucks being out for a while he will be a huge in to free Armfield up and always competes hard. Jacko O’Brien hopefully the other in and a young lad who played last year that can make a big difference. But will leave that one for Saturday.

I don’t think the extra two days will make any difference at this level but who knows.

Some interesting results this week....

A Grade

BBH getting up over South Clare. I was one that might have questioned whether they could win a game this year. South Clare will be extremely disappointed to miss out on the chance to go 2-0.

Surprised with the ease of which BSR knocked off North Clare. Understand North Clare were missing a few but BSR had arguably the best midfielder in the comp Lachy Wilson out alongside Joe Heinjus and Sam Martin who will return later in the year.

RSMU with a big win against Blyth. Not sure Blyth have seen any immediate improvement with the new recruits.

Saints by 7 goals over Min Man probably about where we thought both teams were at.

B Grade

Saints with a 130 point win over Min Man is as big a win as you see in our comp with the length of quarters etc. Interesting to see Andrew Prior kicking 3 for the Saints. I imagine a young Min Man side was pretty intimidated by a mature Saints side. I said last week they had a good balance between mature and young footballers and thought they looked like a really good side.

BSR by 11 goals over North Clare. Closer than the scoreboard suggested with it only really being one quarter where BSR completely dominated. From a BSR point of view was great to see the bunch of new young lads to the club really step up.

Blyth just over RSMU was interesting. Probably expected Blyth by a bit more. Not sure what that says about either side to be honest. It does appear RSMU ressies are improved.

Flag favourites South Clare got up by 8 goals against BBH. Not surprised there.
