I can't for the life of me fathom how that system is viable or fair?

Trying to decipher a fair system for a top 5 to only go over 3 rounds is just as challenging, even Birdwood having to play Kangy's in week two of the finals was wrong, the fairest option was to gift the minor premiers a GF berth with no semi's, but that would've meant no game for 3 weeks.
Top 4 would have being better, which should go to next year with 8 sides

Yes and knocked out in a Prelim this year. Seems harsh. Maybe they have opened the door for Steve Pollock to take over?

So whats the future of some country clubs with no or very few juniors to field, are there mergers likely or are clubs happy to just field senior teams?

wazzal77 really trying to push that one division - you wouldn't happen to be on the HFL board by any chance? What is more than likely is the HFL will get swallowed up just like what is going to happen in the South East this coming year. Create a super league of GSFL, SFL & HFL over 3 divisions... or maybe just SFL & HFL to start (with a couple of ex SFL who are now in SAAFL chucked in there).... and have a true promotion/relegation set up every year like the SAAFL.

Such As (pretty well just based on last years placings) :
DIVISION 1
Hahndorf FC
Lobethal FC
Onkaparinga Valley FC
Mt Barker FC
Blackwood FC
Uraidla FC
Noarlunga FC
Christies Beach FC
Flagstaff Hill FC

DIVISION 2
Mt Lofty FC
Nairne Bremer FC
Echunga FC
Ironbank Cheery Gardens FC
Birdwood FC
Bridgewater FC
Gumeracha FC
Kersbrook FC
Reynella FC
Port Noarlunga FC
Morphett Vale FC

DIVISION 3
Kangarilla FC
Meadows FC
Macclesfield FC
Torrens Valley FC
Marion FC
Cove FC
Aldinga FC
Happy Valley FC
O'Sulivan Beach Lonsdale FC

Bahaha! I dont wish to be on any board let alone the HFL! A thankless task, herding cats comes to mind. But I like your thinking, its out of the box and you could even throw into the mix clubs from Murray Bridge way? I have no preference of the number of divisions, as long as a set up is fair and and teams can be competitive.

Really interesting idea. One problem though is that if you increase the distance juniors have to travel, then that exacerbates the loss of juniors problem, which is the nub of the problem in HFL Div 2. Nairne had this problem when they migrated to Murray Bridge League a few years ago, and it took years to recover their juniors after returning to HFL. Be some seniors too, that wouldn't be a fan of some of the road trips.

I thought this straight away too. I understand it's only a concept but a Kersbrook v Port Noarlunga mini colts (for example) would be a bit of a challenge.

Just a thought, but how about fixturing that game (Kersbrook vs Port Noarlunga) at a neutral venue half way in between - say Echunga?
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

We have put 2 teams in the SANFL Juniors in the last 2 years, with regular travel North of the CBD (been to Angle Vale, Eastern Park, Salisbury, TTG) not one complaint about the travel, confirms to us people are prepared to travel if it means you get a good game of footy.

Hard to judge as our SANFLJ teams are always our 2nd teams in the age group, as we are committed to playing our best team in the SFL comp, hence why we are in the SANFLJ lower Divs.

Div 1 across the grades would have to be a better standard, simply cause of the depth of clubs in the comp.

With the conclusion of the 2020 year looks to be pretty quiet on the recruitment and Coaching side of things? from memory there where a few clubs that where looking for new coaches....

Kersbrook - Advertised? Did James re-commit?
Gumeracha - Lost Ryan N and didn't even thank him for helping break the premiership drought on the way out which is strange? anyone know what happened there? New incoming coach is Brett Randell.
Macclesfield - Is it confirmed that they have lost Dennis I? have heard they had - if so have they found a replacement coach yet?

Have all other coaches re-signed from 2020 to 2021 - Torrens Valley, Ironbank, Birdwood, Meadows, Kangarilla....

Also not a lot of key signings coming into the League as of yet? has the new salary cap worked/slowed down guys jumping to a new club for $$$? Any news of any Key Losses/Retirements in the Div 2 comp?

a Kersbrook colts game wouldnt exist, they dont have any teams apart from the As and Bs. Looking at who fielded teams this year juniors coming through in Country comp is really concerning for the future of some clubs;

Team U13 U15 U18
Birdwood Y Y N
Torrens V Y N N
Kangarilla Y N Y
Meadows Y Y N
Ironbank N Y Y
Gumeracha N N Y
Kersbrook N N N
Macclesfield N N N
Mt Barker Y N N
Bridgewater Y Y N

There will be no Bridgewater next year and Mt Barker filled a 2nd team in the comp.

Good summary and you can see why some kids would go play for Div 1 clubs for a better competition.

Would it just be best to have a combined Div 1/2 Junior comp? Similar to what they did in u18's this year?

There was some tension starting from last year with some people in gumeracha and Ryans wife which continued on into this year. The job was made available to ryan again but both ryan and the club couldn't come to a agreement to resolve the issues.
