Regarding the loss of Round 14 due to the Covid19 Lockdown, the League has had a long hard think and to minimise disruption and to get all 18 Rounds played and to make it fair for all Clubs within the League this is the current state of affairs.

It is proposed that we continue, as "normal", with Round 15 on wards as they are set and after Round 18 we play “Round 14” as the last minor round match on Saturday 28th of August.

This way there is less issues with the changing of multiple grounds over multiple weekends and to this end we will require each club that was programmed to host matches this coming weekend to please ensure that the round “14” ovals will be available on the 28th August 2021.

The Women's Finals will continue as planned on the 1st of August at Mt Compass and the Grand Final at Strathalbyn will now be on the 8th of August.

At this stage it is also proposed the Mini Colts Carnival will move to Sunday 29nd August.

The Final Series will move forward by one week and be rescheduled with the following dates:

4th September - Qualifying Final - Strathalbyn
5th September - Elimination Final - Willunga
11th September - Second Semi Final - Myponga
12th September - First Semi Final - McLaren Vale
18th September - Preliminary Final - Encounter Bay
25th September - AFL GRAND FINAL - GSFL BYE
2nd October - GSFL GRAND FINAL - Yankalilla

We know that this is a moving target and none of this is set in concrete but we intend to keep people informed as things come to hand and at the forefront is not to disadvantage any clubs.

Let us all hope with all our fingers and toes crossed that this hiccup is just a blip on the radar and we get a clear run after that and life gets back to normal as it can be.

The League would like to thank all Clubs and their supporters for their support with this and stay safe and keep your spirits up!

The Great Southern Football League team.

No. This was planned based on the original 7 day lockdown.

[It is proposed that we continue, as "normal", with Round 15 on wards as they are set and after Round 18 we play “Round 14” as the last minor round match on Saturday 28th of August.]

Though as you imply, it may well be longer than 7 days. We sit and wait!

It's what most leagues are doing, this week's round of matches goes to the end of the minor round and finals pushed back 1 week.

It's what most leagues are doing, this week's round of matches goes to the end of the minor round and finals pushed back 1 week.

It's the logical thing to do, and also the fairest. It is a hard situation for everyone involved, and things could change if it needs to be pushed out any further. Fingers crossed everyone

So where do we go from here?

Push the two rounds missed to the end of the year and have a final four finals series instead?

Will have to work out a way that the team that goes straight through isn’t missing a huge chunk of footy between first final and grand final

Hard situation

Surely they just scrap Rounds 14 & 15 and revert the finals back to their original dates.

To change the rules of the structure of finals to reduce it from a Final 5 to a Final 4 , 4 weeks out would be a joke.

I say just cancel rounds 14 and 15 and crack on. Not an equal draw then in terms of each team playing everyone twice will unfortuneatly favour some clubs but best you can do without making even more of a mess. I say keep it top 5.

However as for the top 4 idea could be worth atleast considering just to get the season completed... The GSFL league execs could easily make this happen. As these tards can change or make up rules whenever they feel like it in 2021 they have proven this much.

If they could just exclude mt. compass from the finals based on all the rule breaches they committed this year there is your top 4. Surely this would be the right thing to do and more than ok by the other 9 clubs but hey that would require backbone. As per every other opportunity to actually comply with SANFL rules and regs and fix their horrible errors we def should not get our hopes up on this idea too much though!!!

2 Rounds to go and it looks as if the Top 5 is set with last years Grand Finalists E Bay to miss out with Strath taking their place.
With Willunga beating Compass last week the Minor Premiership is still up for grabs with Creeks being in pole position with their Round 18 match against Willunga likely to decide it tho if Willunga do beat the Creeks (They Drew their Rd 9 match) it will more than likely allow Compass to retake Top spot assuming Compass get the job done this week against McLaren who they did actually lose to in Round 8.
After just getting 1 out of 9 in AFL tips this week  i probably shouldn't be predicting anything footy wise

Gonna be a cracking Finals series with nothing between the Top 3 teams. McLaren and Strath can be competitive and capable of an upset but not good enough to win 4 finals on the trot from 4th or 5th.

I dont think the 2 BYE rounds made a lot of difference to how the table will finish up tho the Creeks may have dodged a bullet against Compass as the Creeks would have been somewhat depleted that day with injuries as they were the 1st time they played them and got trounced.

Anyone know what suspension Brent Creek got from Mt Compass for getting Red Carded TWICE  in Round 16 against Willunga ?

After yesterdays results with McLaren beating Compass for the 2nd time this season, the Five is pretty settled with the only issue to be resolved is Top spot which will be sorted at Willunga next Saturday.
Creeks Draw or Win they will finish Top. Willunga win they'll finish top on %
Compass can only finish as high as 2nd if Willunga lose.
McLaren and Strath will play off in the Elimination Final.

Sounds like it's all starting to fall apart for them.
Maybe the league will need to step in and give them some further assistance?

They should be without Haniford for an extended period of time. Straight red card, reported/sighted by both umpires and with video footage available on the late high hit with fist/forearm I am led to believe.

Straight sets exit would be bloody nice to see.

Head to the 38:30 minute mark and put yourself in the position of Mount Compass. What’s your defence? How are you planning on getting Haniford off for this crude hit?

Attempted spoil gone wrong? Not sure that is enough to get him off with anything less than four games.

If that's an 'attempted spoil', he's not an A grade defender. The timing was well off and the angle of the arm would indicate he thought that ball had bounced first?

Bad one, real bad one.

Creek ended up with just the two weeks suspension.

It was definitely a red card for umpire abuse. Was it a red or yellow for striking? Commentators kept saying it was yellow. Striking, 100+ metres off the ball with one, possibly two red cards and he only gets two weeks.

I believe Hoffman has to front the tribunal tomorrow night, despite playing on Saturday, after he was reported by Rob Brokenshire, the Compass official for head butting Creek. Apparently they have footage on Snapchat of the alleged head butt.

Compass made no friends early in the year, now they’re making sure they’ll have no friends for years - except the GSFL.

Ha ha Dutchy you beat me to it. I went to find it to have a look myself and it’s gone. So having not seen it I cannot comment however if it’s as bad as those on here say it is, then surely the GSFL come down on it?? They wouldn’t want to start getting the reputation that other leagues have got.

Wonder why it’s been removed? Could this be another stunt from Compass to cover things up, does RB have his mitts on this one too? I do know that one of the commentators for Happy FM is a HUGE compass man, and major sponsor at that. He is a great bloke though too
