well said newman, i havent been around and dont know the histroy between you guys and havens but throwing around money doesnt breed loyalty.
that's what footy has lost these days, good clubmen who play for the love and the mateship.
i can tell you for a fact that we dont play any player at our club and we are doing ok so far.
what does that say about nth haven paying players???
You win some, you lose some!!!!!

I dont understand what paying players has to do with anything? a lot of clubs do it & to think that it wont bring success you are kidding yourself. If a club was to recruit a few players & then go up a grade, do you think that it could then attrack some more players? winning breeds success

what club are you from yeva? is North Haven travelling pretty badly?

not sure wat you portland guys are going on about im a friend of a friend of woodrow's who said he received a call to play for portland in 2005 and said they would go to any lengths to stay in div 3 he knocked it back for two reasons one he plays to play finals football and the other he was captain of salisbury west so to me they were going pay money to an outsider to stay up, that is worse then paying someone to help win a premiership

Oooh hooohoo the truth is starting to come out... why isnt everyone just honest. Most clubs are paying players. Hell I heard a Div 7 team is paying good $$$ to get to div 6.

It's just a circle. $$$ brings good players, good players bring success, success brings more $$$. The art of it all is picking the right players to bring to a club which will improve things, both on and off the field. A club can't survive on the basis on guys being faithful. Theres always 4-5 guys in every team who wont leave to go elsewhere, but a team can't survive on those guys and whatever juniors coming up. Eventually money talks and if clubs are so close minded about not paying players then eventually they will fail.

And yes I'm a North Haven person, and I want to see the Pies go to Div 3. But being a Port Adelaide boy all my life I do wanna see Roseys and Portland be sucessful too.

Good on ya Wounded Warrior, the old 'friend of a friend', hey. Well, must be true, that is proven to be the most reliable source of information known to mankind
This discussion has gone way off target. The original comment i made about Haven paying blokes was given in response to Ouzo having a crack at Portland. I agree, Westsider, clubs do have to recruit and pay something to players to get them there. I also agree with the comment you made about choosing the right people to recruit/pay - its a balancing act. Clubs cant just survive on faithful players (not at a reasonably high level anyway), but IMHO it is these players that are the most important. They are the ones that will stick around when times get tough. I never said Portland dont/wont pay players, that was never my argument. Haven obviously have one idea on how to improve their position, Portland have another. Both, one or neither of them may work in the end - time will tell.
For the record too, that Woodrow story is utter cr@p !!!

Well Spoken Felch, spot on.
If people actually read what was being said, as apposed to shooting off their mouths with foolish statements, you wouldnt have to reiterate your previous statements.
W Warrior, being on the committee (and heavily involved) in 2005, i can tell you that your woodrow comment has no truth to it at all.
But hey, in fairness to you, there have been plenty of other false rumors that people have tried to float on this forum.. Good try though.

If anyone wants to talk about football, I think I'll retract my statment about Rosewater only winning 1-2 games this year, and say that I will soon be proved wrong. They've obviously thrown some coin at some blokes and will avoid relegation, so congrats to them. Sucks to Unley, Pulteney or Ingle Farm.

What did everyone think about the results on the weekend? Portland were a very physical side and will really take it up to Para Hills at The Paddocks, although I'm not sure if they'll win. No real surprise with Mitcham & North Haven getting over Pulteney and Pooraka, Unley beating Ingle Farm was a bit of an upset (although we haven't played either yet so I can't really judge), and Rosies showed that they won't be too bad for the remainder of the year.

Would be incorrect.

We have three country guys who train with us, two play at Moonta and one at Renmark. We wanted them to play with us, and thought we could get them before the season started, but due to the fact that we have no money and Moonta and Renmark do, they are still playing out in the country.

Those Centrals 'rejects' you're referring all played their junior footy at Salisbury, except for one who is best mates with one of the others, and none of them are getting paid. We had one bloke (who played all his juniors here) play with us for a couple of weeks on his way back to Centrals 19s where he played last Saturday.

The money thing is nowhere near correct mate. We have literally no cash, none. We have a lot of themed nights on Saturdays to keep the bar ticking over, and the club makes sure everyone has their subs paid by the end of May, plus sponsors, thats it. Paying blokes just isn't an option for the club at the moment. If we tried, we would be bankrupt very quickly.
