I've made a typically myopic, ignorant and uneducated suggestion lacking in discretion and pragmatism:
If a club elects to drop divisions, A graders who leave may not be allowed to return for a determined period.

That's going to be a really successful strategy for helping those clubs get back on their feet [/sarcasm]
Are you guys actually thinking this through?

Dunno. Maybe because the club isn't playing that year?!? Using this logic none of the Para Hills guys that have helped us out would be able to build them back up again in 2017??Lightning McQueen wrote:morell wrote:So a guy plays for 15 years at a club, leaves for a year because the team folds through no fault of his own - and he cant come back to the club to help it rebuild?

It has merit, why piss off in the first place if you've been there 15 years? There obviously needs some modifications to the rules but as a whole there needs to be measures in place to prevent this happening.

Maybe because you promised someone that you'd have a crack at a higher division the previous season
Maybe you got a contract in the NT for work for 12 months and wanted to have a kick
Maybe you did your knee but want to help out in a coaching role at another club for 12 months.
Maybe you made a mistake and got cleared when you shouldn't have.
Maybe you promised your brother you'd play with him in Vic before he retires
That's the thing, these blanket, hard and fast, binary, black and white type rules only work in peoples heads and on sa footy. The practical implementation of them falls down.

Maybe think of the blokes that put the club in that position by leaving at the drop of a hat for $$ and now are back to 'help the club rebuild'

Here's a rock solid suggestion that will solve a question that's been confounding scientists for centuries
Next time you play Salisbury West, swap your B and C Grades so we can finally sort out whether a D1R side could beat a D7 A Grade side
Bit better, but you're still restricting clubs that are trying to rebuild. Which is utterly nonsensical. Its like taxing a business more for making a loss.Jetters wrote:Maybe the rule is if you are cleared to another club, sign a contract and accept payment at that club you are not allowed to return. Or, you are not allowed to be cleared back to your original club and accept payment the following year.

You're going about it the wrong way, we need to restrict the guys from *leaving* in the first place, not from going back.
morell wrote:Despite all that I do agree that the pendulum effect of:
1. Team struggles in medium level div
2. Gets too hard, players leave
3. Club folds for a year or drops to one team
4. Comes back in lower div
5. Players come back
6. Smash lower level comps
7. Climb divisions
8. Rinse and repeat.
Its definitely an issue, but you're trying to solve it at #5 - which is too late! We need to solve it at #1 or #2.
