You can handball further.

I agree, my comment got taken along a path that had no relevance to the point I was making.

Very interesting and you could very well be right. The old "get shredded for stereos" modern phenomena.

We're living in such a vain and vacuous society. No doubt this is reflected in football.

I disagree, I think you're more seeing a generation of lads who enjoy training for a purpose. Yeah, we provide Tuesdays and Thursdays, but for those who love to train for something it's not enough so they go for extra runs, train for functional strength etc.

It's the age of the amateur athlete.

I hope you're right, my observations have mixed perceptions.

No doubt there are still plenty of blokes doing shitty bodybuilding bro-splits in the gym, but if you wanna be a a better footballer, there are more effective methods of training to do in your spare time.

Mate, back in my day If I had taken a photo of myself flexing my muscles in front of a mirror in the gym when I was 18 or 19 I would've been punched out before leaving the premises.

You don't agree we're living in a vain and vacuous society?? The kids these days are all about image! With their Instabooks and Facegrams.

It's perhaps a tenuous link between the quality of athleticism in D6 compared to eras gone by and modern societies obsession with looking good, but there is no doubt the stereotypical lower division footballers body shape has changed. Even in my time.

I don't think we are any more vain. Could easily argue we way more narcissistic these days...and maybe it's that which fuels the amateur athlete in us.
