Tend to agree. Prefer it to be APPS and TPPS based.

Ie you spend a decent period playing with no or next to no points and with no or next to no salary cap.

Club gets to exist but there’s a healthy hit of specific and general deterrence.

No one really gains anything from Gaza ceasing to exist (except presumably some soccer club who’d love the oval/facilities)

Could Gaza survive with no player payments or points?
They’ve struggled with them lately so it might just be a slower death this way.

If they were hit in the TPPS space, what’s to stop them just paying under the table or rorting the system again?

It wouldn’t seem to me this situation has put them off, chatting to players who have so far recommitted they are still being offered a healthy wage.

I mean it's a lot of breaches but gee a lot of clubs would be in similar territory for sure.

If the dollars being splashed about at Port Noarlunga are lead to be believed, they would want to be holding more than a music festival...

With all the players leaving they’ll be heading downwards for a few seasons, that’s a punishment in itself but rightly they should cop a fair whack

Well, overpaying players clearly didn’t work so maybe the opposite might!

You’d have to wonder what they were thinking, I mean all that money spent to go from Div 2 to Div 4. Someone got it horribly wrong.

It's funny isn't it in that in being totally unsuccessful makes it far less offensive.

SANFL are only taking action against clubs when they have solid evidence that would stand up legally, there are plenty that they know are over/outside the cap but can't act, yet.

They have also been lenient on those that admit guilt straight up (Jervois still won the flag with points taken away), Gaza have, eventually, but suspect they have worn out their welcome.

Surely they'll setup a payment plan for the fine if it remains around $380,000 so the club doesn't fold.

Stop paying players and it won’t take too long to pay that back

I don't want to be the one that sounds like an arsehole.. but.. why should the SANFL or anyone else go easy on them, or be lenient?

Through this whole fiasco - before and during - they had the opportunity to co-operate, come clean, admit guilt and work through it. Was talk of large portion of the fine being suspended if they complied.

Instead they hired a lawyer, fought it, declared innocence until the 13th hour and now people are starting to think poor Gaza can't have them fold?!

You make your bed you lie in it.

100%.

That side of town is as competitive as it gets for players, you see the usual movement every year between the same group of clubs.

If one club is going way beyond the rest, then tough luck if they get caught.
