Aren't they national guidelines that can be adopted though by individual states?

SA is pretty advanced compared to some other states managing CV-19, I wouldn't think that all these guidelines/recommendations would be implemented here?

Correct they are just federal guidelines with each state to adopt whatever they wish.

Premier Steven Marshall also announced that those who play contact sport, previously limited to just training, would be allowed to return to games on June 25.

Back to normality for most senior players

High-fives, handshakes and huddles have all been banned - while kids will have to shower and change at home.

The bold bit cracks me up. Literally tackle each other for two hours, but don't ******* dare clean your entire body with soap immediately afterwards.

RE: SANFL Community Football | COVID-19 | Return to Play Update | 25 May

Once again, we appreciate your ongoing leadership as we navigate the Return to Play Roadmap for football in South Australia.

Positively, the hard work and dedication from our Leagues and Clubs adhering to Level B Return to Training protocols have demonstrated that we are capable of delivering the required safeguards to move into the next stage of our roadmap.

The State Government has today announced that the next stage of the SA Roadmap to Recovery has been brought forward to Monday, 1 June 2020, including advice that contact training for outdoor sports can commence from this date also.

It was also announced that competitions for outdoor contact sports can also commence/resume from Friday, 26 June 2020.

SANFL is waiting on further detail and advice from the State Government, which will enable us to finalise our protocols to move into Stages 3 and 4 of the SANFL Roadmap. Once this is received, SANFL will confirm a date for football clubs to commence contact training. As per previous correspondence, SANFL is committed to ensuring our Leagues and Clubs are prepared and educated to deliver COVID safe environments.

*** SANFL will provide a further update on Stage 3 Training – i.e. Contact Training – and associated protocols as soon as we have received further detail and advice from the State Government ***

While we have yet to receive confirmation on the ability for spectators to attend matches, we are buoyed by the early relaxation of restrictions, as well as the increase of patrons permitted inside venues. We are confident that this will be considered favourably in future.

With respect to a return to competition and when/if spectators may return (including the provision of food and beverage), we will provide further information at the meeting of League Presidents/Secretaries on Tuesday, 9 June 2020 at 6:00pm.

We thank you for your continued work, support and understanding as you lead your football clubs and communities through this period.

Training until further notice must remain as per the Stage 2 Return to Training Protocols.

SANFL will provide a further update on Stage 3 Training – i.e. Contact Training – and associated protocols as soon as we have received further detail and advice from the State Government.

Please see the following key resource/information for SANFL Return to Play: https://sanfl.com.au/returntoplay/

Take care and stay safe.

Kind Regards,

Tom Hurley

Head of Community Football

Hearing a fair few footballers will be choosing to work Saturdays rather than the play this season.

Whilst we know footballers shouldn't be reliant on 'football money' absolutely kidding ourselves if we dont think some live close to their means based on their football income, especially those earning upwards of $10k a season.

We asked all our players to provide an update on whether they'd play or not so we could sort sides, fair few indicated they'd only play if they weren't working.

They were mostly the fringe A graders or C graders

Most of your boys would get more from their trust funds and investment proprieties than most footballers hey ;)

This will be a common theme across the league for 2020 IMO

Will be interesting to see how many players 'drop off' if their team loses a few early games, especially if no one is being paid.

If no one can be paid my tip is we will see a massive influx of players look to move back to their 'junior/home grown' club for one year. I already know of a couple of players who said they will do this if they cant be paid.

If there is no payments allowed you would think the premiership teams will be those that can manage to hold onto most of their players the best.

Would the league consider a season where they play for flags but no relegation/promotion.

So if the SANFL aren't going to be paid then community football has to follow suit?

Considering Sanfl runs community football I cannot see them allowing amateur payments
There would be plenty of SANFL players looking for permits to play country football in 2021 if they do.
Will be an interesting season and the clubs that will succeed maybe the ones who have low imports and a great culture to succeed rather than playing for financial benefit.
Could be the most even season we have see for a while in some comps.

I've found in recent years, showers post game are declining.. filthy mongrels too scared to get their gear off if front of the lads these days. Important bonding time sharing a cold beer in a hot shower, young whipper snappers just don't get it. 8)

Juniors - well except 18s and maybe 16's i'd be surprised if any kid showers at the club after the game.

If that's the case there will be pull-outs each week than a fraternity party.

There will be f*** all at trainings aswell, you are right though, it will even the teams out for a year.

I'm sure there will still be brown paper bags handed out.

Sanfl are on job keepers. I know of a young lad that is fringe reserves/community footy level getting $750 per week. Some of the top players may take a slight pay cut but most have actually increased their payments considerably.
Heard there is over 30 players on job keeper at some clubs. That's $22,500 per week which is more than the salary cap.
Based on that Sanfl players as a whole are actually getting more.

If a player is contracted to a club for say 3yrs and the SANFL decides no payments, does that mean clubs/player can go on job keeper too?
