Bit late now.

Sorry Q but you can correct me if i am wrong, but i have been told you were asked to go up but declined as you thought you wernt ready yet?

Like i said, correct me if i am wrong.

i'm not sure what you're carrying on about.

You, nor anyone else, including the league, can make a team go up so who cares if they said no.

They could've said no because their cows don't like div 6 clubs for all you care.

It's a non-issue.

We were asked if a club folded (Kilburn or SW I guess) what our thoughts were on filling the gaps left.

And?

It was a confidential meeting. But you can have my thoughts at least.

A year ago, I would have said yes.

Now I say, not if we don't have to.

Why should we be put at a disadvantage in starting behind the 8-ball of nine other teams in D6? As soon as our season finished, I made the decision to cut player spending back and any recruiting for next season in D7 to be done without contracts. And we quickly committed a shedload of money to improving oval surface and club facilities. I definitely wouldn't have done that if I'd known we were in D6. It's likely that Steve would also have planned pre-season to start before Xmas were we in D6.

It's not about being ready, but being able to plan to succeed in making the jump. Basically, I wanna know at the start of September.

If you didn't win the flag and 'Earn' the right to up why would you?

It shouldn't be a grey area, 2 up (Minor premier and Premier if its the same side then the 2 grand finalist) and the bottom 2 down end of story.

Edit*** Sides pulling out I understand can be a different situation.

If you want to hop off your high horse for 5 minutes that would be greatly appreciated ;)

I was asking Q as i thought they would have taken any opportunity to jump out of 7.

As he has explained, i admire them for making a stand on paying players and committing to there club rooms as i believe that is what attracts players to a club and respect that.

We all know what some clubs in this Div will pay to win a flag and we all know where that ends.

Well done on Houghton for taking this stand.

I was only asking a question and not having a go at them.

You can go back to your love in now. ;)

Actually, the credit should go to those contracted players who were happy to take a cut.

It brings up another point. Grand Finals (win or lose) end up being a massive revenue boost for a club, which helps with the jump up a grade.

Totally agree Carey, but what happens when you are going to lose a lot of players?

As tough as it is unfortunately its a bit of bad luck on that club. I'm sure many a club over the years have lost players but, You just need to try and recruit (I have seen how hard this can be) and do your best. As you have stated you have to have an environment where people want to play.

I remember in the Paralowie days, We had many of players asked many times to go play at other clubs but not 1 of us left during that period as it was an awesome environment with a great bunch of guys. I remember only winning 1 game for a year and my god was that a celebration and a half people running on the oval, It was like a Grand Final. funnily enough I think it was against Brahma Lodge....

I totally agree mate, used to get our arses handed to each each week but always turned up and gave our all for the club.

Used to have some big nights at the club and that was when you didn't get % if they other team didn't score.

Can even remember teams running the ball the other way for a rushed behind so they got all there %.

That one win night was when you put your car into the cricket nets!

Agree carey.

Said it once and will say it again.

2014 was the worst (or maybe second worst) year in Mitchell Parks history on the field.

Was one of the best off of it.

Footy at this level is NOT always about winning - good idea of a morell's myth!!!
