knowing Mr Newman i am fairly sure he's gonna stick around as pres next year and look to build two teams, a much better, more profitable club, and knowing a lot of the blokes who play under him and have followed him there, they'll stick around too, the club can only get bigger and better. i look forward to next year, with a magoos at Ovies i should get a run every week...

It's easy to be critical from a distance, but having had experience in a lot of football areas, I really hope that Ovies are not subjected to some of the past issues that seem to arise when Chris Newman and some of his friends are present. It can be said it's not his fault and all of the other forms of denial but there is a common thread in all of that. I hope the club goes on to become strong and can field more than 1 team in 2009 and get out of the C section, it's not easy running a footy club nowadays and clubs need all the help they can get from anyone willing to jump in, but they must want to do it for the "right reasons"

Bubbula a agree with some things you say in your posts,but dont agree with you saying you never went out to a club to make friends you only wanted to play together.A football club should be as one,and all team mates should be friends.Dont no gepps x as a club but do agree some clubs dont look after c grade teams or give them the respect they deserve,it takes all to make a club not just the a grade,which is still the most important grade of corse

In 2006 Clinton Payne from Gepps Cross C grade broke a 70 year old record held by Walkervilles S.Maley when he booted 161 goals in the regular season after playing only 15 games. He finished the year with 170 goals. Gepps Cross being the great club they are barely even recognized this achievement instead put dirt on it by saying Payney(who was 34 at the time and has a bad back) should have played up a grade. Then again they never really recognized anyone that played C Grade. What a great club to be at.

The way I typed it up sounds worse then what I mean. Ofcourse we wanted to make mates or we wouldnt have a football team but the reason we went there was to play football together. People often refer to C Grade as a social grade..

have found out that a bloke that i know was in weekly contact with this group of people at another club a few years ago. i'm trying to get in touch with him to get his view on these guys. he is a past player & i value his view. will let you know.

hate to drag out one of my own posts, but i think it's going to get personal here again. i spoke to this man [ and he knows nothing about this ]and i asked him a few questions.[ this person was in weekly contact with C .Newman a couple of years ago ]. 1 C.N came with a core of his own players who were not interested in playing a higher grade [ even though some were more than capable ]. 2 C.N didn't encourage players to seek to play higher grades ["why would he , we were killing teams every week" ]. 3 C.N & Co did not go back to the club to have a beer [ except to get 'awards' ] [[ which upset this particular 'proud' C grader, as it was a great tradition of the SUPA'S at that club to have a beer or three together after the game ]]. 4 no beers supplied to the C grade after their GF win, which really pissed off the "club C graders who did not come with CN. 5 he has not seen a photo of that side in the club [& he admits he hasn't looked everywhere ] and that upsets him because he was [ is ] a clubman of many years standing. 6 his words " we won a GF but we [the club Cs] were not part of their group and we got caught up in the s**tfight between them and the club but we didn't really know what was going on. it was good to win but it wasn't a good celebration [compared to others]. 7 to the best of his knowledge no jumpers were taken as 'GF trophies,but he wasn't taking that much notice. that was his insight to some of the things that have been posted on this forum. he [ and i ] have no vested interest in the arguements here so i just put these views up as another person's look at things that have been posted here earlier

Moz, I've known Chris for many years and played at gepps. When I went back to Gepps in 06 I only had intentions of playing c's because of work commitments and wasnt completely serious about my football. I then told work to stick it, had more time on my hands and trained with the B Grade for around 3 weeks.. I didnt get a mention for selection so decided to just stick playing C grade. How would this encourage others to want to play B Grade?? If you dont know chris personally dont worry about any of the crap you here. He is a normal everyday bloke with a great passion for the game and Ovingham football club..
