Players being told by other clubs it's all good to go there because they have been officially told that we are folding.
Clubs gettind sh!tty with players not making a decision yet to see if Smithfield are going to be around.
Former players giving numbers to clubs of other players to try luring them out there.

Obviously the days have gone for playing for your local and where you grew up, the SAAFL and other leagues has become somewhat of a "big business", money talks and bidding wars have been rife.

In saying that, I'd like to say well done to Carey Payne who has had Smithfield's existence in his best interests before having a crack at any of our players, he has liaised with me to get updates on how we are travelling and not in a selfish way.

It's been a blast on here over the past few season's, I've got to meet some wonderful club people and gained a lot of insight into how other clubs operate.

I guess I wont be on this thread much longer and I wish all other clubs the best of luck for this season and beyond.

Always good chatting to the likes of zedman, Executive Member, Dark Knight, Ash Man, S Demon, Jabber, Mr Beefy, Demon Juke, sprinter and the list goes on, it takes many different kinds to make up a club and an association and I've been wrapt that I've had the experience through this site over the years.

I apologise for anyone that I haven't mentioned, there's been too many.

Terrible news.

For the people that frequent the Div 7 forum, this is the sort of sh*t I am talking about when I go on my rants about player payments and the like.

The SAAFL need to be stronger and more determined to rid the amateur game of player payments. Otherwise more and more clubs will have to take the actions that Smithfield have.

Good luck to all involved at Smithfield. If the MPFC can help out in anyway PM me.

Unfortunatly its impossible to track and if two blokes want to exchange cash for football they will do it whether its done at a football club, the local pub, the back of some blokes house etc etc

Even if you could track the money then the currency would change and players would play for alcohol, drugs, job the club could get them, etc etc

They will always be some form of payment in amatuer sport especially now that clubs are run so proffesionally, not much the league or anyone can do really.

I could not agree with you more LM. Takes a token few to ruin it for the majority.

After today's turn out for our rego day we may look to trade juniors for seniors. Huge 5 signed at the lodge for juniors and 1 is my son. Not a good start to the season for juniors at the lodge.

US massive glass houses!!! i witnessed your club president stand over a 13 yr old goal umpire the last time we played at your ground because he didnt agree wit the decision, that kid usually does A grade games too, but because of the abuse and the carry on from your supporters and from your president he didnt do it and i took over.... not to mention the mensa comments i recieved all game from your supporters!!! if i really cared what you they were saying i would have been hurt. plus not to mention one of you senior players hurling a abuse all game (which 95% of it made no sense) plus he looked like an idiot doing it. would have been embarrased if he was at our club...
time and place mate and nows not the time...

all the best LM really hope something good comes from this... such a proud club and i have always the hard contests againsts your mob...

Mate we are no saints when it comes to that sorta stuff, just look at our finals exits in the B and A grade in the last couple years and you will see how people don't think we are angels.

As for what WUB said, that happens at every club (fan abuse). I dont condone what the president did, especially to the young fella. There will always be the feral supporters at every club, that think there opinion is worth hearing, but for the majority they are the minority of supporters from the club. The key is not to bite back cause that just adds fuel to the fire, although saying that they usually leave us B grade hacks alone and pick on the A grade superstsars.

Good luck with it all mate.

Pag, also with the introduction of 1-2K army fellas over the next year or so, with a stack of accomodation in the northern area (Andrews Farm, Craigmore, Blakeview) you would think there'd be quite a few looking for a club to play with.

No one is forced to go up. If no-one sticks their hand up I believe we can have a 9 team comp.

Why should the Div 5 clubs be gifted a 'Bye' when one of it's clubs drops out? This didn't happen a couple of seasons ago when Edwardstown pulled the pin. Especially when there is a club that wants to play in a 2 grade comp (eg North Pines, Modbury etc etc) that won't be let in Div 7 cos Div 5 has a bye :?

Sorry LM for the news on Smithfield, had some good battles over the years with Smithfield boys and meet some good peple like yourself for a beer after the games. It is pitty football is not like it was in the cdfa days when you battle hard on the field and then allways go in for a few beers afterwards to talk to the boys you just played against. I now it going to be hard but in the best interest in your future it would be better to go down to c3/4 for 1/2 years then come back with a more numbers in d7/7r and become stronger. Maybe if you still celbrate the 100 years with 1 side you might be able to get past players / supports back involed with the club with a few function's. If most your side can stick together and with a flag in c3/4 it might be the start of the fight to come back! like a lot of other clubs have had to do.

A bye would not happen at this stage of the year, still plenty of time to adjust the grades so all grades will be full before the season starts, There would be a lot clubs in div 6 that would love to come up to div 5 - clg, blackfriars, trinty etc. Yes you can be made to go up because they make you go up in the c divion's with no choice.

very surprised and disappointed to read the previous few pages LM.
our club had fantastically spirited games against your mob during our short time in the comp ... except for the EF loss by a point in extra time :(

Of course, what would I know anyway?

I would dare say that after other clubs had seen what happened to Kilburn as a result, most clubs would think twice about it..name a club that stayed up or went up that fared well out of that whole debarcle.
