Maybe just had their $hit together for the last 7 years, not 10.

Junior footy subs out the Eastern Suburbs have been pretty steep for a while. The club exploded in juniors from 2010 when it was in Div 7 and just coincided with them shooting up the grades since.

Really.

Would have been more with who came onto the committee and coaching roles at the time, and how many SANFL players all of a sudden wanted to play "for love" for a random D5 side.

Isn’t that when David Pittman and Mark Riccuttio turned up?

No point having 700 kids aspiring to play Div 7 footy.....

GG won the 2008 D5 Premiership
2009 - in D4
Although I dont have the records, I reckon:
1. They went up to D3 in 2010 and went back down to D4 in 2012 or 2013
2. They went up to D3 in 2017 - so that took 8 years to stick in D3

The 10 years starts in 2014
2014 - GG were in D4
2018 - Played in D3
2020 - won D3 Premiership (but an * year for everyone as no promotion / relegation)
2021 - limited season so another * year
2022 - won D3 Premiership - promoted to D2!
2023 - won D2 Premiership

2014 - 2017 (4 seasons) D4
2018 - 2022 (5 seasons) D3: 2022 - D3 Premiers
2023 - D2 - D2 Premiers

Overall, it took 14 seasons to get from D4 to D2
From 2009 D4 season, 2 clubs have made it to D1
From the 2014 season, 1xD4 and 3xD3 clubs have gone on to play D1 football

Very good last 2-3 of years
And looks like a good year next year

I reckon they made the Div 3 GF in 2017 and had a one year stint in Div 2 in 2018.

Glen Simmons won the C3 goalkicking in 2017 so I was working on the premise C3 meant the A/Bs were in D3

Correct, lost to a very strong Brighton in 2017 and were unlucky not to stay in D2 the following year after Salisbury North's indiscretions.

2014 was the turning point for the club after going out in straight sets in 2013. To be honest it could be a very different history for both of these clubs if they didn't manage to win the PF against Eastern Park. Down by 9 goals at 3qtr time and kicking the winner with under 20 seconds left in the game.

What about D3 in 2010+?
When did they go back down to D4?

Yep, promoted in 2010 to D3, however this was off the back of the rise through the ranks so you could put it to the fact that the club at the time wasn't probably ready for Division 3 football. This period of time was pretty formative too, as it was the first lot of long term/foundation juniors coming through to play A Grade football, a lot that were part of the Under 17 premiership team in 2006. Few of those players still part of the last 4 years or so of success too.

2007 - D6 (Lost GF)
2008 - D5 (Premiers)
2009 - D4
2010 - D4 (Lost GF)
2011 - D3 (Spoon)

Anyone know how their reserves went in that time? Specifically, in 2008 and 2013?

Don't quote me on this, but maybe.....

2016-2018 Brian Leys
2019 John Cunningham
2020 Andy Read

Speaking of GG reserves, how's their former coach going to go out at Pooraka this season?

Think he'll have his work cut out for him - reading on the D4 board it sounds like there's been a bit of an exodus at the club over the off season. Can't see many players following over too, first D1 season, new clubrooms etc.

My comment of 2-3 years about Glenunga was based on; since that 2020 season and the turnover of coaches in the past 10 years
Its very easy to get stuck in D2. No doubt Grima has done a great job making Glenunga D2 & D1 competitive in both D1 seasons (ie) the past 2-3 years

The interesting question is what would have happened if 2020 had been a full season with promotion / relegation?
Did Glenunga lose most of its players in 2020? Was it because of the short season - no promotion / relegation?
What would have happened if Glenunga had gone back down to D3 for the 2021 season?

PAOC went from facing relegation (3-6) to playing in a GF (6-3) last season.

All speculation but that's footy

hey; when did D Pitto go to Glenunga?
I saw Darcy playing 1 season at PAOC

Not sure exactly when he came out to Glenunga, but think it was a season or two after the old man came out. Been there for a few seasons now. Father/son have been a great pick up for the Rams.
