Interesting read.

There was a time when touring sides were afforded respect and got to play warm-up matches against Shield sides on the major grounds.

The Windies will lift significantly for the Hobart Test next week.

Based on what?

On the fact that it's a Test match with some meaning to it.

I don't believe the West Indies are as poor as what that warm up game suggests. From a batting perspective they'll struggle but their bowling attack will perform better against the Aussies than New Zealand's did.

Are you suggesting the West Indies are going to win a test?

No; but neither did New Zealand.

I think NZ will get a lot closer than WI and we won't be relying on a lucky umpiring blunder against this mob.

Apart from the Adelaide Test where conditions suited the bowlers I thought New Zealand's attack was pathetic.

I just don't think the Windies will fare any worse than some other touring sides in recent Australian summers e.g. New Zealand 15/16, India 14/15, England 13/14, India 11/12.
South Africa 12/13 and England 10/11 were obvious exceptions.

1st test XI
Warner
Burns
Smith (c)
Voges
S.Marsh
M.Marsh
Nevill
Pattinson
Siddle
Lyon
Hazlewood
(12th) Coulter-Nile

I don't think it will really matter who we put in, it should be a comfortable victory.

One thing that baffles me, why wouldn't they see if Pattinson could get through a 4 day game first, here's another LTI I reckon.

Who ever would have thought a New Zealand Test series would be the marquee of a summer in which the Windies were touring.

Wasn't the opening bowler. ;)

1/85 off 13.

Warner 42/29
Smith 6/10

Burns proving to be a bit out of his depth at this level, I think.
