Sydney is a low slow dead wicket, has been for a numbr of years.

Not saying a 5th bowler isn't handy, but more just not taking much out of that Sydney result.

I think Kuhnemann would’ve been a better option.

I’m glad they didn’t take a punt on that Dooley character

Thinking India will be hot and probably favour the batsmen so it will be long periods of bowling. Our batting has been quite strong and playing Renshaw in Sydney was the wrong choice

Five batsmen, Carey, five bowlers most of which can bat a bit is my preference

I get what you mean with the 5 bats, 5 bowlers & a keeper who bats well, and plays spin well.

Head not proven against the turning ball, great at home, struggles away. I hope he has a break out tour. Would be first trip to India for Marnus too I think. Six bats for me (or include Green as the allrounder). I think 5 bats is 1 short, at least for the 1st test. 2 spinners in for us, is a certainty I'd say.

My issue with only 2 pace bowlers is what happens if one breaks down if Green isn’t playing. Essentially only have 3 bowlers

Confirmation Starc will not play in the first test-
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/star ... ad-1353226
Mitchell Starc has been officially ruled out of the first Test against India in Nagpur but has still been named Australia's 18-man touring squad for the four-Test series on Wednesday which features four spin options including uncapped Victoria offspinner Todd Murphy.

Starc suffered a finger tendon injury during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa and was ruled out of the third and final Test of the series in Sydney. Australia's selectors confirmed on Wednesday he would not be available for the first Test in Nagpur starting on February 9. Starc won't join the squad until the lead-up to the second Test in Delhi. Cameron Green, who is recovering from a broken finger, will travel with the squad ahead of the first Test.

Uncapped quick Lance Morris– the 2022-23 Shield leading wicket-taker after six rounds– retains his place in the squad and could be a chance for an international debut with confirmation Mitchell Starc would not join the squad until after the first Test in Nagpur as he recovers from tendon damage to his left middle finger.

Surely they’re not thinking of Morris to replace him? I’d give it some thought in England, but not India.

This is where our programming is flawed, although there’s an element of excitement surrounding Morris, Steakette and Neser were performing exceptionally well in the real comp

Was Jhye Richardson considered?
He’s back playing albeit in the BBL isn’t he?

I would have had him in before Morris

Whilst Warnes record wasnt great and yes he was the greatest.

We have seen others perform alot better, Nathan Lyon as an example.

Steven O'Keefe had a great series there averaging in the 20's whilst we all know what Jason Krejza did there one series.

The theme without having the stats to back it up is that the leg spinners tend to struggle over there whilst the offies have alot more success. That would also be reflected looking back a the Indian bowlers with Kumble being the only leggie they have produced in modern times (even he wasnt a traditional leg spin bowler)

Morris is currently 22/23 Sheffield Shield leading wicket taker (2 and 3 wickets ahead of Steketee and Neser respectively) and he bowls 140/145km plus, Steketee and Neser obviously don't so that's why the selectors are keen on him.

Yes Richardson has been playing BBL but recently injured his hamstring (minor strain) and is out for at least 2/3 weeks. Prior to the BBL he had a long lay off with a heel injury and has only play one Shield game this season.

For me I say take Alan Border.

Left arm spin, handy bat, adds to the captaincy, commentates well and is actually likeable. Also quite experienced in the conditions.

That’s a worry that he’s injured again.

I’m not sure the selectors would feel they actually need to use Morris but they have obviously identified him as a future star.

Train on the Indian decks, understand the weather and dietary difference, take in the cricket loving India, understand how the players prepare and hopefully that hold him in good stead when he is actually needed to play wherever that is.
