Same, he was downright scary when he burst on to the scene, how good was it when Dean Jones asked him to remove the sweat bands?

Viv would have to be the prettiest to watch, 47 average whilst striking around 92 on full sized grounds with no laws on bouncers, no helmet, classical one foot in the air whip over mid wicket.

Interesting wubsy fact #423: Sir Garfield Sobers only played in one ODI, The West Indian inaugural ODI.

Sadly, I couldn't quite squeeze him or Glenn Trimble into the team.

As did Bill Lawry. Didn't quite have the repertoire of Garfield St Auburn though.

C’mon man we are talking about the greats not the just the good players.
Hayden and Waugh Jnr surely make the team before Steve.

I’ll probably swap Lee with big Curtley Ambrose.

Solutely.

The big fella is first picked in my side.
Viv Richards gets in before Ponting as well in my side.
Different era's here lads, you have Ambrose and Richards and I have Lee and Ponting. Growing up Lee was and is my favourite Australian bowler, especially in ODI cricket and it always felt like Ponting was making runs left, right and centre. It was a glorious era.

Statistically he is probably the best Australian allrounder in ODI cricket just in front of Watson and then Symonds but is still behind Kallis and Jayasuriya.

Curtly and Viv should be 2 of the 1st picked in any best of ODI teams. Phenomenonal players. Brett Lee was a photo negative of Patrick Patterson.

Kallis is way, way ahead of Steve Waugh as an allrounder in any format.

I can't agree with Richards and Ambrose being 1st picked in best of ODI teams, again different era's give us different opinions I reckon.

But this I can agree with, Kallis is a long way in front of the second ranked (IMO, going by the numbers) Steve Waugh.

Gayle
Sharma
Sehwag
Warner
DeVilliers
Afridi
Gilchrist
Warne
Pollock
Mcgrath
Ambrose

My team would chase all runs in 30 overs, not that they would be chasing many.

Respect your opinion TDK but Viv and Curtly would be 2 of my 1st picked in any format in my lifetime in the last 40 years. Gilchrist I was thinking as well but to be honest he was a long way from the best keeper in his era and wasn't the best bat. Sangakkara holds that mantle in my opinion. Gilchrist was more destructive but not necessarily better.

Fair enough mate, you got to see them live whilst I was still swimming around and then before I even knew what cricket was.

I loved watching Viv bat in any format.
Imagine him playing the T20 format these days.
No ground would be big enough for him.

Viv was the dynamo of his era, Kohli is that now. But if I'd have to decide between them it would be Viv every day. A genius.
