NSW 2/9 in 2nd dig after WA made 180 in reply to Blues 447

NS 447
WA 180
NS 2/46

I realise WA were 5/23
To get to 180 was a good effort
BUT
But to make 180 in 84.5 overs is simply not good enough ?

The equation now is
NS lead by 313 with 2 days left
8 wickets in the balance

673 runs in 3 days
This is meant to be the showcase of the SS season
NS have excuses batting like cockroaches , WA do not

Shaun Marsh 40 off 160 balls
That surely is not good enough, irrespective of the score when he first came in
When the opposition bats first and makes 447 , WA need about 700 runs to be competitive in 2 digs
The 700 has to be made at a reasonable rate
Batting at 2.12 runs per over is not good enough
It would have made more sense to bat at 4-6 runs and over and make 150 off 30-40 overs

Hazelwood 6/50 [22] must have been a good effort

Not sure a Shield Final is needed. The scenario of one team only needing to draw, as well as playing over 5 days instead of the usual 4 makes it different to how the game is played every other game. Also the fact the AFL want the major grounds earlier now and it appears the Cricket Associations are happy to have something else on (i.e. Rolling Stones, Major League Baseball) instead. This year at least - rewarding the Shield to the top placed team after the minor round would have been a thrilling finish - with all 3 games on at the same time.

Clone of Shane Watson
Bats well
Bowls well
Gets injured too often

Australian selectors will want him to have a good Domestic season , injury free and in form
Batting is his strength in Domestic cricket
But he might end up being a better bowler than batsman at Test level , has a good outswinger

Not done enough to be picked as yet
Needs to make a couple of big tons in my opinion
Needs to be picked on form, not gifted a gig as the all rounder the selectors might want or need to pick

Absolute domination by NSW in the final, worthy champions. Cricket in this country wouldn't have been as good as it was in any era if it wasn't for this one state, they just keep producing

Just think if the Redbacks had held catches or snagged one more wicket in either innings NSW wouldn't have even played the final..

Teams that finish top of the SS ladder get great rewards
Home Finals [in theory]
Draw is a win
Cant think of a sport where top dog gets as much advantage as in a SS grand Final
And rightly so, teams that are top dog deserve every teeny weeny to big and bigger advantages
This year NSW earnt the right to those advantages

BUT

Things might be fair for the top dogs, but it leads to perhaps the most uninspiring Grand Final of any code
SS finals at times are a borefest
If your state is playing in the final, there would be a certain amount of interest
But when its the other 5 states involved , and the way enough of these games are played , the cricket can be listless , leading to who cares who wins

I have not got the answer , maybe someone else has
Maybe a timeless match or a 6 day match
That way both teams play to win

Anyone got an answer to make a SS Grand Final a more enterprising spectacle ?

Ditto
Who cares if there is a conception out there that NSW players get preferential treatment at Test selection tables
Fact is , for whatever reason, this state is a production line for Test cricketers , and enough of them perform

1) Don't have a Shield Final
2) Timeless
3) If a draw - whoever wins 1st Innings wins the Shield

first innings points for the shield title is a good one.

Makes sense. Although you would seem some strange teams picked. Pick a team of batsman who can bowl a bit of off spin with 2 good quicks.

If it's still a 5 day game,
You would still get results a lot of the time.

Teams may actually prepare result wickets just incase they lose the toss
