Nevill is a good keeper and competent number 7. No issues with his spot in the team.

Warner
?
Khawaja
Smith
?
?
Nevill
?
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

7 of 11 players I'd be happy to stamp down for the next couple of years. There are some good pace bowling prospects waiting in the wings too (Pattinson, Cummings, Sayers).

Burns, Ferguson, Patterson I'd like to see fill spots 2,5 and 6 and Sayers as the 3rd seamer.

Good that theres a batsman and bowler in the squad from South Australia, but arguably its the wrong 2 and should have been Head and Sayers instead.

Into the squad. I'm pretty confident Mennie will debut.

Horses for courses, Bird will get the nod before Mennie unfortunately.

You would think logic would say Joe is next in line being preferred as the cover for the previous Test match but this is a selection panel that just continue to defy logic.

Bird is very overrated in my opinion. Bowls one pace (which isn't quick) and only swings the ball on a green tasi deck. Joe was in the 12 originally so surely plays in front of him.

Thinking Ashes next year, the team could like this IMO.
If Peter Handscomb keeps hitting runs he could well be in line for a call up also. Bancroft still well and truly in the picture IMO with a few runs this 2nd half of season. Huge shield season for our batsman with spots up for grabs for India and the Ashes!
IMO i think the selectors have to move away from the all rounder selection policy and pick 6 batsman. Smith might just have to bowl himself more when teams bat for a day (Or use Lyon  )

Bird should have been in the squad ahead of Mennie really. Took five-for in his last test match

To be a part of the squad, some form of acknowledgement, the only way he was gonna get a gig is if Hazelwood or Siddle did a McGrath and trod on a ball during warm up.

See this I don't understand- Maddison doesn't even open the batting for NSW in Shield cricket, what's the thinking behind opening him in test cricket REB?

Agreed.

You could pick the next 10 batsman in line to play for Australia in Test cricket and Maddison wouldnt be close. Hasnt got the temperament for it, Patterson alot closer.

15-30mm forecast for Saturday and Sunday in Hobart, 1-4mm on Monday. Looks like play might get underway on Monday at some stage, can't see much play tomorrow or Sunday.

I don't see the point in playing South Africa in Tassie full stop, pretty stupid in November too, at the end of the day they'll only get 10,000 people there and they'll all get in on a family pass.

Where else you you play it? 2 x 3 Test Series this season and Australia only has 6 summer time Test venues. Means Sydney or Melbourne get 2 and likely to impact on their 'Traditional' slots

Start the Test matches later, simple. Make Melbourne the 1st of the second series and play Brisbane after Sydney.

Perth, Adelaide and Hobart in November/December. None of this will eventuate because we have a month of Big Bash shit to **** up the whole long form summer of cricket.
