I can clearly remember when I heard McGrath was out.
Standing in the Moorook-Kingston footy changerooms, late because of work, so everyone else was already on the track.
The tv in the corner was on while I got a hammy rub and I was happy to lay there for as long as the trainer wanted to work on my tight muscles while I watched the cricket.
Then, I think it was Richie, announced McGrath was out after stepping on a cricket ball (funnily, it was a similar inopportune incident earlier in his career which forged McGrath's mettle - McDermott stepping the wrong way off a wall in the Windies).
I had a sinking feeling about that series, which proved to be right.
Later, I watched the final concluding sessions of that Test in the games room at my home, rugged up on the couch - throwing my pillow away when Warne was dismissed. Swearing loudly when Kasper went.
For a cricket fan, life changed that day - we were no longer invincible. Someone else had won the big moment.

Wouldn't think it's ever happened.
Even the early sides had a South Australian in them.

bit of a shame waking up to see the Windies rolled for bugger all.

Cricket must be about the only sport where you want the opposition to be competitive as it can increase the length of a match.

Yeah, nah
Just want the Aussies to destroy sides every game, not fussed if it goes only 2 days

Australia's first team team was made up of six New South welshmen and five Victorians (note the eary NSW bias :D ;) )

First non NSW/Victorian to play test cricket was George Giffen #27

Boooring.

The best series are ones where it is close.

There you go, for some reason I thought Giffen played in the first test.
Should've known that, really.

Odds after day 1

SPORTSBET
WI 15-50
DR 37-00
AU 1-06

BETFAIR

Sportsbet keeping WI and the DRAW safe perhaps ?

im not super fussed as long as there is a result.

Didnt see much of the latest NZ Eng test, but looking at the reports it looked like a few momentum swings, thats what you want imo. Rolling teams for 140 then making 200 in reply is just as boring as 600 vs 500 imo.

Your a hard man to please Benny.

I think George Giffen debuted in First Class Cricket after the First Test match was played, according to his Cricinfo profile he debuted in 1877/78 with the first test played in March 1877 of the 1876/77 season.

Great battle between bat and ball this morning. I think if the boys get through the first hour there could be a fair bit of pain for the Windies in the latter part of the session and during the second.

I think we will have our eye on a 200 lead and a crack before stumps.

Would love to see a Smudge ton before my eyelids win the battle :)

Not quite the epic battle I was hoping for...out for 25

It's Shane time, normally makes things interesting. You'd have to think that AV is a huge show to top score on debut

Just stated to Wristy I think Watson will get a run a ball 100-120. I'll think he'll like this track

Oh dear don't mention his name or your posts get taken down, it happened in pub and restaurant review page among others.

Anyway you are spot on so far 7 off 7. Shane may shine

Stop it. Brad is a gentleman.....as in the type you might see at our gentlemans night tomorrow

Bishoo doesn't look the worst, certainly by Windies spinning standards he looks the goods. Has a few variations and tossed it up to get the wicket after being flogged a cuttla balls earlier. Surely someone will get a hold of him today though. Possibly B-Rad if you haven't jinxed him ;)

Voges is looking quite solid. He seems to be our only bat who looks comfortable facing Bishoo.

Fair nut.

Bisho deserves some credit but it's Careys wicket
