Shami never bowled more than 8 overs in either of the second innings.

Spinner took only 15 wickets? Don't win if you don't take 20. 8)

That was in the second innings....15 out of 20 second innings wickets. Shami took a total of 2 second innings wicket at 37. The spinners took 15 at 15.

Just cant see how Hazelwood will offer enough value over Green.

Just can't see how you play Green as a front line quick when he'll be batting at 6.

I guess we differ on term 'frontline'.

Just not sure bowling no more than 10 overs an innings really counts as being frontline.

Green has a lot of development to go as a bowler full stop, he will get nothing out of the Indian pitches and that big frame won’t like bowling too many overs in those conditions

I'd consider playing a Handscomb or Renshaw at 7 and Carey at 8.

1. Warner
2. Khawaja
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Green
7. Renshaw
8. Carey
9. Cummins
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

Only downside with the above is 6 left handed bats.

I’d move Renshaw ahead of Green to break the combinations up a little. Although you express having 6 lefties as a problem, 2 of the right handers are Smith and Marnus, there’s a fair chance that they will face nearly 50% of our balls.

I’m eager to see Zampa get a gig, I’d prefer him if we are to go a 2nd spinner, he can land it on the pizza and give it decent turn, any other option will only get embarrassed by the Indians.

I can only offer 50% or 100% mate.

You don't take him in thinking "He'll only bowl 10 overs", what if he needs to bowl more?

Personally I’d prefer them facing 0% of my balls, I reckon they’re a bit weird like that.

Booney wrote:Warner is an eye player, he's never been about technique ( the amount of shots he played in that 200 with a bat on a 45° angle was alarming ) and his eye is going, understandable at 36. Head, much the same, all eye and not so much about technique. It's likely they both struggle there.

The real pressure is on the correct Labuschagne, Green and Carey. Smith is another example of batting, but it's Labuschagne, Carey and Green I think we need to fire with the bat and it's exactly why I'm playing Hazlewood and Cummins at least. Green is going to have a load of work to do and I think we'll need him more with the bat than ball.

I also think Head and Labuschagne look more like wicket takers with the ball than any of the three mentioned about and with Hazlewood, Cummins and Lyon with Green, Head and Labuschagne taking part I reckon we have enough to take 20 wickets there.

Moving Green to 5, Carey to 6 and playing a second spinner leaves us vulnerable with Warner a literal hit and miss proposition at the moment.

How did you insert the degree circle?

Corona Man wrote:How many players would they take to India - A touring squad of 15?

Warner
Khawaja
Labuscharne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Starc
Cummins
Hazelwood
Lyon

Boland
Agar
Handscomb - back up keeper gives him the nod in front of Renshaw.
Murphy

Or do they take 2 more and fly Green & Starc in when fully fit

If so
Renshaw
Morris.

I’m hearing 16 is the magic number.

I don’t think there will be too many surprises given what we already know.

My guess is the obvious XI plus:

Agar
Renshaw
Handscomb
Swepson
Zampa

I’m hoping Murphy instead of Swepson, Mitch seems to be liked by the selectors though.
May take Boland while Starc is injured, only to be around the team leading into the Ashes where he’ll be our leading wicket taker.

Agree with that.

Would they take a back up keeper. Carey obviously has the spot and will do so for the series but if he's injured how quick can they get one over there.

As per Booney’s comment, I think it imperative to have one in India due to Delhi Belly

When is the last time he kept (i don't really watch the big bash but does he even keep in that anymore).....never mind the fact this is India where keeping is at is hardest.

If you're calling Zampa a Test spinner I can call Handscombe a Test 'keeper.
